Harvard Stadium

Built in 1903 and with a seating capacity of 30K, Harvard’s stadium is the first concrete football stadium in the country. It is the site of the U.S. Olympic Trials for men's track and field in 1920, 1924, and 1928. It is also the site of many fearless athletes who like to run up and down the stadium seating for a workout. Who needs a Stairmaster when they live near Harvard stadium?

Here’s a fun fact from The Harvard Crimson (thecrimson.com) - the size and shape of Harvard Stadium is the reason football today is the way it is. In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt called for an intercollegiate conference to make football safer for students. One suggestion was to widen the field, which Harvard’s stadium could not accommodate due to the closeness of the stands to the field. Afraid that eliminating football at Harvard would spell doom for the sport on a national level, the forward pass was adopted instead. That’s right, Harvard is the reason football fields are the size they are, and part of the reason the game is played the way we know it today. While there are no Harvard Football games the week of PestWorld, they are playing Princeton on October 22nd.

Located at 79 N Harvard St in Boston, the stadium sits amongst Harvard’s main athletics campus and is about a mile walk from Harvard square.
