Boston Area Family-Friendly Activities for April Vacation
For many local families, today is the last day of school before Good Friday & April vacation. If you’re looking for some activities to fill a couple of days on the calendar for next week, we’ve shared our ten favorites below and encourage you to check them out. It goes without saying that April vacation is also a great opportunity to check out some new houses and to think about making your next move!
1. Spend the afternoon at the Boston Public Garden. Swan boat rides start back up for the season on Saturday, 4/15 at 11:30AM – be the first in line! Check out the beautiful gardens & set up camp for a picnic.
2. Watch the Boston Marathon. There are plenty of places to park your family along the route in Wellesley, Newton, Brookline, Boston, and more. Most importantly – stop by our William Raveis Coolidge Corner office cookout at 1394 Beacon Street!
3. Visit a local zoo. The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, and the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence all have special events throughout the week for April vacation.
4. Explore a museum. It looks like we’re in for some rain next week, so an indoor activity may be the way to go depending on the day. We recommend the Museum of Science in Boston, the Boston Children’s Museum, or the Providence Children’s Museum.
5. Watch a Patriots’ Day parade or reenactment. Lexington & Concord both have excellent parades and reenactments every year – check out Paul Revere’s ride reenacted in Lexington or watch the parade march down Main Street in Concord.
6. Cambridge Science Festival. Kids can enjoy demonstrations, workshops, and activities all week at the Cambridge Science Festival.
7. Get up close & personal with all kinds of animals at Davis Farmland in Sterling. Davis Farmland opens today for the year!
8. Celebrate Earth Day on 4/22. Visit a National Park for free (there are 14 in Massachusetts), or check out a festival at the Spellman Museum or the Franklin Park Zoo, among others.
9. Walk the Freedom Trail in Boston. The Freedom Trail is a perfect way to get some fresh air, exercise, and culture all at once. Stop by the State House, Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, and more on the trail.
10. Take a hike. There are plenty of easy trails to walk with the whole family around Boston, including World’s End in Hingham, Plum Island in Newburyport, Myles Standish Forest in Plymouth, and the Battle Road Trail in Concord.
