How to be a Lion Tamer - A Primer on Leading Up

Lead Up. Use the best known Dale Carnegie technique. Show interest, ask questions, listen, engage, add value, be empathetic and, by all means, be yourself — your amplified self. Like it or not, people will judge you, so if you can influence their judgment to a large extent without driving yourself mad, do so. But let it be a result of your hard work, your social adeptness, and of your self-confidence.
Many bosses (but not all) are like lions. They roar, bite, and attack unpredictably. If you have a lion as a boss, then you should learn to become a lion tamer. It’s one of the best skills to develop when you are in a lion’s den. You should understand what shapes the lion’s perception of the world: in most cases, lions see you as either prey, an enemy, or ignorable. Prey, they eat; the enemy, they kill; and everyone else they disregard. What is left? Being on par with the lions without being a lion.
Here's how you tame the lion, in other words lead up. Prior to commenting, do listen to the entire video so you have the full perspective, not just this text.
"Creativity is about responding to the structures that are placed on us in new ways. It is about taking the constraints of a situation or an object and testing the limits of those constraints." Michael Rosenberg

7 年Great piece Sir, in this transformative era of leadership, we face lions every other day, and lion taming is a necessity now. As you mentioned it may lead to consequences, but at the end it gives one the satisfaction of of doing right as against just being a mere follower, a yes man.

7 年Thank you for sharing Anura Harsh. Why do we need to be lion tamers? What if .... we let go of the lions and have the tamed and self controlled be the bosses? Would that not make more sense Sir? I am sure it would save the company lots of money, it would be productive, create harmony and focus on getting more work done, which to my understanding the only reason people go to work to begin with. Or am I wrong? Do people go to work to do everything else but work?
