What challenges are homeowners facing today??

Stefan: There are several challenges homeowners face that haven't been fully addressed. Firstly, there's not enough inventory, making many desired markets unaffordable for the average household. As a result, many home buyers end up settling for properties that aren't their first choice.?

Secondly, homeownership often proves to be more expensive than most buyers anticipate. Homeowners need to be prepared to manage unexpected issues with their property, which can create financial strain.?

Lastly, a significant challenge lies in the cost of maintenance, upkeep, and unexpected issues that arise. For condominium properties, some of this cost is accounted for in the maintenance fee. However, if you own a single-family home, this cost is hidden. It's then up to the homeowner to educate themselves about when the roof replacement is due, when the water heater will need to be changed, and what other systems within the house will require future upgrades or replacements.?

How can data and technology address these challenges???

Stefan: For homebuyers and homeowners, the key to a successful and stress-free investment is to play offense and defense. Offense refers to making the right upgrades to maximize your home’s value and improve your equity position, whereas defense pertains to mitigating repair expenses through prevention. Data and technology can help with both by providing repair and renovation ROI insights and guidance and alerting homeowners to potential issues before they become invasive.?

Stefan: Well, we’re doing what I described a moment ago! We have a proprietary home data ingestion process that captures data through the digitization of property inspections. Hundreds of thousands of them a year. This allows us to create forecast models and plan for future events. This means more educated buyers (our data insights can be obtained within a day of the inspection) and, for homeowners, better insights for improvements and proactive recommendations for repairs.?
