Boss Thinking
Think Productive - Global Learning Partner
Inspiring and equipping people & organisations to transform work for the better.
And the 5 minute conversation with your team that could turn 'overwhelm' into 'in control'
December is next week.
Like you, every member of your team is likely starting to feel the stress of being mid-way through a short quarter, with end of year targets, project deadlines, present-buying agony and overly-ambitious social plans fast approaching.
Sure, there may be the odd Christmas Super Elf (every team has one right?) who has already bought and wrapped all their gifts, but there's still the work stuff to stress about. And even on our team, we're feeling the pressure.
It's at times like these that 'Boss Thinking' comes into its own.
Boss Thinking is where you take a step back, and, like a boss, identify what on your list needs to happen now, and what can wait.
You can see it as a process of renegotiating the work with yourself.
This simple act of your boss-self, giving your worker-self the permission to take some things off your list is surprisingly powerful.
ANYONE can do this, and we encourage all our followers to do this regularly, no matter where they sit on the org chart.
Identifying priorities is not always easy of course, particularly when everything seems important.
But as long as you and your team are crystal clear on what the ultimate goal is, then the renegotiating will work its magic, alleviating the surplus pressure we all put on ourselves, and help us feel back in control.
Remember, the work never ends.
You will never get it all done.
And that's OK.

Make space for what really matters, on the stuff that "makes the boat go faster", and the rest can wait.
The world will keep on spinning.
The work will keep on coming.
But you and your team will have the satisfaction of knowing you focused on doing the right work.
If you're the boss and sense the stress building in your team, now is the time to sit down in your 121s and ask them if they've done their boss thinking and if you can help them further untangle their priorities.
We've got this.
Until next time!
