BUILDOFFSITE Member C-Probe Systems Limited Emerges as Winners of the Prestigious British Construction Industry Award for Environmental and Sustainability Excellence LONDON, 12 October 2023 – C-Probe Systems Limited Systems, a leading innovator in low carbon corrosion management solutions, is thrilled to announce their triumph in the ‘Environment and Sustainability Initiative of The Year’ category at the 2023 British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA).
The #BCIA, jointly organised by New Civil Engineer and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) , held its 36th-anniversary celebration on October 11 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. With over 1,000 of the UK’s foremost clients, consultants, and contractors in attendance, the event served as a prestigious platform for acknowledging and celebrating industry excellence.
C-Probe Systems secured the coveted award for their outstanding restoration work on the Omni Centre Car Park in Edinburgh. The company’s innovative approach involved designing, manufacturing, and supplying low carbon materials and management systems. These solutions not only addressed the corrosion issues affecting the safety and functionality of the busy 4-level car park but also contributed to a lower carbon solution with improved environmental sustainability.
Judges, after a thorough face-to-face review, recognised the exemplary collaboration between C-Probe Systems, Makers Construction Limited (the chosen contractor), and Waterman Group (the overseeing engineer). The installation successfully preserved over 8 million kilograms of embodied carbon for more than 25 years, with targeted and minimal repairs adding a mere 90,000 kilograms of carbon. The corrosion management strategy also featured online control and performance assessment, providing data to prove its resilience into the future.
Commenting on their submission and presentation, the judges remarked, “The cost of corrosion in buildings and infrastructure has been estimated at 3.4% of GDP—so these measures, widely applied, have the potential to offer significant benefits to our economy and environment. It is maximising the use of the embodied carbon in existing structures in an exemplary way.”
