Boris - show time?

Even someone as bluff and freewheeling as Boris Johnson understands the benefits of rehearsal before making a big speech or – as is the case tomorrow – appearing before the Commons’ Privileges Committee. He's there over 'Partygate' and has just published his mitigation but faces several gruelling hours of questions, being televised live.

Read what he has to say ahead of the hearing here:

It's also reasonable to assume he have have run his defence past a range of media experts in an attempt to polish his mitigation. Or is it to sharpen up his 'woolliness'? Because, like it or not, Johnson’s ‘style’ – that's what it is – is no accident. His bumbling, never-quite-answering schtick has been expertly honed over many years as a device to deflect criticism and inquisition. The performance benefits from being one he's done before.

Practise is key for any communication exchange.?

Broadcasters and those in the public eye recognise the benefit of hearing yourself say it before you say it.? And therefore not surprising yourself when you do say it!

How many people rehearse before doing a media interview?

It should be mandatory: vital to hear how the words for the ear to hear trump the language for the eye to read.? In our media training we stress the importance of coalescing your thoughts and ideas into a couple of anchor points to sustain your interview. We also recognise the advantages of rehearsing out loud, recording your responses and reviewing them before doing an interview.?

Boris Johnson will have certainly road tested his lines before tomorrow - his future and his legacy depend on it. Another former Prime Minister, David Cameron once dubbed him ‘the greased piglet’. Will the committee pin hm down despite the inevitable fog of his pre-blustered responses?
