Boris Johnson. The loser.
He lost. Isn’t it time he got over it, and moved on?
Yes, Boris Johnson since becoming Prime Minister on 24 July, has lost 8 divisions in the Commons – that’s more defeats than Tony Blair’s entire decade at Number 10.
Since replacing Theresa May as Tory leader, the Prime Minister has:
? failed to stop MPs forcing through legislation to avoid a no-deal Brexit;
? fell short of the required two-thirds majority for a general election;
? was defeated on a usually uncontentious motion to approve a short recess for the Conservative Party conference.
His key loss today was a crushing defeat for the new Prime Minister.
Johnson had called for the first Saturday sitting of Parliament in 37 years, so that his controversial new(ish) Brexit deal could be passed.
Instead, Parliament put a screeching brake on his plans.
By a majority of 16 votes, the Commons passed the so-called Letwin Amendment. That calls on Parliament to pass the legislation needed for his Brexit deal before it can be accepted.
Since Parliament did not approve the deal today, then under the so-called Benn Act, the Prime Minister must write to the EU by 11pm tonight, requesting an extension to the Article 50 notice period.
Mr Johnson said this afternoon that he will refuse to do so, giving advance notice – once again – that he is prepared to break the law and ignore Parliament to get his way.
The new Prime Minister was already found to have broken the law with his prolonged proroguing of Parliament, that the Supreme Court ruled was unlawful.
Surprising? Not really. As a boy Johnson said he wanted to be:
“King of the world.”
He’s supposed to have grown up since then, but he clearly now thinks he’s above Parliament, the Queen and the law.
Soon after becoming Prime Minister, Mr Johnson said he would refuse to resign even if he lost a vote of no confidence.
Some news reports even suggested he would “squat” in Number 10 rather than lose the coveted job (and address).
Boris Johnson is a loser, a liar and a liability to the country. It’s time for him to go.
Opposition parties, please do your job.
Put in place a temporary caretaker government, and put the Brexit decision back to us, the people.
Then let’s all say we will accept the verdict of the population, based this time on the actual details of leaving the EU that none of us had in 2016.
Rather than have to endure yet more manoeuvrings of a populist, rogue Prime Minister, who is destroying our country’s reputation across the world, and demeaning our democracy at home.
? Reasons2Remain is a campaign for a democratic reversal of Brexit. We believe that Brexit will do huge harm to Britain, and that we didn’t have the full facts in 2016.

5 年I believe people that voted out did so with out the thought of a deal to get out, the main selling point that swung the Brexit vote in my opinion was, control our borders, if the government had listened to the people years back we wouldn't be in this position now. Just my opinion.
