Boosting Our Science Capital
At Byondis, we want to help create the next generation of scientists. That’s why we support a number of educational initiatives that help fuel young people’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects and careers.
We start them young
The annual Dutch Girlsday initiative has become a tradition at Byondis. The event, which takes place every April, aims to instill a love of science and technology in young girls. For Byondis, that means opening our doors to about 40 12-year-old girls from Nijmegen area schools. Clad in lab coats and goggles, and led by an enthusiastic team of Byondis women scientists, they visit our labs, conduct fun experiments and learn what it’s really like to work in a biopharmaceutical company.
We give of ourselves
On Sundays, Byondis participates in the IMC Weekendschool Nijmegen. Focused on harnessing the potential of young people in the Nijmegen region, the IMC Weekendschool introduces children ages 10 to 14 to volunteer professionals who share their career journeys. A multidisciplinary group of Byondis volunteers teaches the children about medicines development, speaks passionately about their chosen paths, and gives the children a glimpse of life in biopharmaceutical development, both in the classroom and on our campus.?

We provide a head start
We are now awarding the 10th Annual Byondis Molecular Sciences Scholarship at Radboud University (RU), Nijmegen. This scholarship is for an outstanding first-year student pursuing the chemistry, molecular life sciences or science degree program at Radboud University. Over the course of three years, the winner works with a Byondis mentor and has access to our labs, offices and colleagues through in-person visits, meetings and events. Past winners have been grateful, not only for the monetary award they received, but for the chance to see and hear about real careers and experiences at Byondis.?
We regularly open our doors to science students from different Dutch universities. Students are treated to presentations about our company, R&D efforts, pipeline and passion – to #MakeHopeReal for patients. A campus tour, including a visit to our labs, is always a highlight.?
Finally, our internship program allows university students to work side by side with our technicians and scientists. Upon graduating, some of them end up working with us to play their part in creating precision medicines that make a difference in the lives of patients.
For Byondis, it’s about giving back, sharing our passions, and cultivating the next crop of innovators. But as our volunteers will attest, it’s also rewarding and fun.
