Boost Your Work Performance with These Three Tips

Boost Your Work Performance with These Three Tips

When you work for a company where productivity is recognized, it can pay to stand out from the crowd. Being recognized as an active contributor to your team brings a great sense of accomplishment to your professional life. But in a competitive culture, how can you be sure to stay on top in a way that’s both beneficial for the company and personally rewarding?

Here are three simple ways to boost your work performance.

Stay organized. Getting—and staying—organized takes time and persistence, but in the long run, you’ll reap the rewards. Keeping up with your workload is much easier when you have a clear schedule and prioritize tasks. Whether you choose to use a planner or write lists, knowing your deadlines for all of your projects will help you stay ahead of the game.

Organization goes hand in hand with time management. Do you find yourself struggling to keep up? Or do you catch yourself procrastinating? Try scheduling your day in a way that uses your energy in a smarter way. For example, if you’re more alert and productive in the morning, plan to do more intensive tasks before lunch, and save less demanding work for the afternoon.

Set goals. Goal setting is often mentioned as a great way to be more productive, and it’s true, but sometimes, the process of achieving those goals can be a challenge. Working towards a big goal can seem complicated, but breaking down a big goal into smaller “bites” can make the process much more realistic.

Start by taking a goal you want to work towards and separating it into the steps you’ll take to reach it. Then write the tasks necessary for accomplishing each of those steps. Be sure to keep these steps specific. Finally, assign a completion date to each task.

Seek feedback. Asking your supervisor for feedback on a project can be intimidating but remember: the best way to boost your performance is to improve on what you’ve done in the past. Your supervisor is there to help you.

Most importantly, make an effort to use the feedback you receive. Think back to other scenarios where you were given constructive criticism—an annual review or the last time you finished a big project. Did your supervisor mention any advice that might help you in the future? If so, make note of it and strive to implement it into your work.
