Well, maybe you heard about Ed Stafford?! A man who likes to travel the world on his own and I don't mean the booking.com way. He not only conquers himself in all his adventures but does the same to his readers and viewers. If you have ever seen a man eating a living spider, you know what I mean. He is the super-survival thing...
But throughout his Journeys he comes across different old cultures with valuable life lessons. And what's more loveable than listening to thousand of years of culture and wisdom?! This time Ed was going to live by himself on an island near Australia and was seeking some advice by the Aborigines, the native people of Australia. When they told him what they focus on, before they are ready to go on their big walk-about, and live in the wilderness for a period as long as six months to make the spiritual and traditional transition into manhood, surprised him.
The Aborigines believe that we have Three ( 3 ) Brains ! The biggest being the Gut and our instincts! The second biggest is our heart and our emotions and the smallest Brain is our logical brain. The word they use to describe the logical brain is also the same as for a broken fucked up fishing net. They believe the reason that western people confuse life so much, is that they live in the logical brain. Instead, it should be seen as a tool.
This is what Ed is saying:
"Everything is meant to start in the gut, everything that we do, the way you live your life, it also starts down there. And it gets filtered by our heart and our emotions and then latterly it gets filtered in a lesser manner by our logic and our logical brain. It’s not that that’s not got a place, it has, its filtered on the way up and everything must originate. And if you think about it, we have a lot of expressions about “following your gut”. “I didn’t know what it was, but I felt it in my gut”. Like our logical brain doesn’t know what’s wrong/going on yet but our GUT brain does.
It’s like we’ve been programmed so much to listen to our head- brain so we’ve forgotten to follow our instincts, our GUT brain.
And they genuinely believe this, that our gut brain is our actual main brain and I’ve come to believe the same. I think everything should originate here and I think to live your life in an urban society where you’re constantly watching the clock and you’re involved in time and stresses and all this sort of stuff, it’s just all in your head isn’t it?
And all that the aborigines were doing was trying to tell him, the more you live in your head - the more problems you’ll have, the more anxieties and fears and doubts. And they were absolutely right, the more you can come from an instinctual place…all of that problems just evaporates, and you can have a decent time in reality."
So, what does it mean for you?!
Go through the article and read it again. Try to understand it.
In the last couple of years my feeling went into the same direction. Our Brain is the greatest tool ever. But it is a tool. It learns very fast, it analyses, it makes conclusions. And thanks to great technology, we have numbers to undermine those conclusions. BUT with all the technology and information available for everyone, how do we distinguish our interests, our products and services? By GUT, heart and experience! I hope you are getting the idea by now... We should listen more to our gut feelings, let it run through our 2nd Filter, the heart and emotions and what passes here, needs to be validated by the endboss - the brain ! If you translate this into technology, marketing and team culture, we can paint a pretty good picture, how to make decisions. Good or bad. Learn from them and create more experiences!
See it like a funnel. Use your 3!!!! Brains instead of just one!
