A few years ago...as my business was starting to ramp up, my husband (he's an accountant) asked me the question, "Do you know where your revenue sources are coming from? And how much time/effort/energy are you spending on each of those revenue sources?"

Sure, I knew who my clients were...but, I wasn't keeping track of how much time I was spending on each. I was just getting the work done. So, I kept a spreadsheet of my hours spent against what I proposed my hours to be.? Sounds simple, but let me tell you...it was an eye-opening experience from a cost-benefit analysis, risk-reputation perspective, etc.

Follow this super simple 3-step process.
REVIEW REVENUE STREAMS
Which clients or projects are bringing you the most money per hour? Take a look at your proposals and estimated number of hours spent versus actual hours spent. Then, review which revenue streams are actually making you the money money. This is where you focus your time and effort in 2025.

REVIEW CLIENT WORKLOAD
Do you have certain clients that you enjoy working with over others? Those clients tend to make you more money than others because you're "on the same page" and you "get each other." Subsequently, you don't spend as much time on email or zoom because of this. You want MORE of these clients. Ask those clients who you should know that are like them.

REPUTATION & RISK
Do you have certain clients that always seem to be in trouble or run into big issues regularly? This may subject you to risk that could ultimately fracture your reputation. This is a deal-breaker, and you could miss opportunities with the right client because you couldn't fire the wrong one.
