Yes, that’s the phrase which best describes my 2nd innings at Sapient. I started my journey with Sapient in 2007 as a campus hire, new to the corporate world, enthusiastic to grab any opportunity that came my way. At Sapient, I learnt how important it is to work in a team and with the open culture (no walls/cabins/boundaries). Routine and regular interactions with the senior leadership bolstered my rookie confidence. The culture at Sapient encourages self-expression and inclusion. Sapient is known for its culture in the industry. Though I left Sapient in 2009, it was its culture that made me come back in 2010.
You may ask what is so special about the Sapient culture and isn’t every company claiming a unique culture in current times. My take on it: just like Maslow's Hierarchy of needs in life, every person has certain needs which they want to fulfill during the time they work for an organization. Most of the organizations would extend their support to you to fulfill your physiological and safety needs (which could be translated to job security, pay parity, career growth). But where Sapient stands out, is for the need of belongingness and self-actualization. It provides an environment which is conducive enough to explore yourself, to break boundaries and strive to achieve extraordinary things.
At Sapient, it is like a big family. Everybody looks out for you, ensures knowledge is shared, and the outlook is forward-looking. The focus is a lot on relationships and that is felt by the amount of trust shown by the team on you. This instills a sense of responsibility and ownership in doing things. This also means that there is no micro-management and everybody has a sense of pride in the work they own and deliver.
Now, I’ve lived almost a decade of my lifetime working with Sapient and during my years here, I've gone through many transformations and have grown as an individual. Since ‘People Growth’ is one of Sapient’s core values, considerable organizational resources are devoted to manage one's career. Sapient prides itself on giving its employees challenging assignments, with appropriate organizational support.
As I near a decade in my second stint, I know that the road ahead is exciting.
