BOOM: Told You So!

In several of my previous posts, I’d predicted Google holding its ground and OpenAI tanking on its dominance. Regrettably, even surprising to myself, my predictions have come to pass rather quickly. Here is what happened and what happens next:

For people who live and breathe in the tech sector, some aspects of how tech companies rise and fall are not so obvious to the public. Very often, market perception differs from reality. OpenAI, like many flashy AI startups, was locked in poser-hacker wars for a long time. This was especially evident in the hacker community of the company that just keeps failing to materialize properly. It was anyone’s guess which camp would persevere. The departure of the hacker cheerleader, Elon Musk, from the scene further destabilized the situation and support of the hacker camp.

In this news, OpenAI ousts CEO Sam Altman, Sam, together with his co-hacker Greg Brockman, a bunch of the best engineers and prolific community members are out! While the CTO, Mira Murati, who doesn’t give a flying clue of what "invert a binary tree" means, is now solidly in charge of the company’s technology future. Don’t get me wrong; OpenAI will float for a good long while; after all, the nice features we see come into production today are the things that Greg and Sam envisioned well over a year ago. But what does all this mean for us and the investors?!

First: This has nothing to do with "Microsoft always betting on the wrong horse," as all the hacker Discord channels are drumming today. If you follow all the Discord cutting-edge scene, then you already know - hackers are prone to overreaching. And OpenAI remains one of the best commercial offerings to put LLMs to practical use in business setting. Importantly, here’s my take on the future:

"Watch where Greg's and Sam’s people and their hacker community go and land - that is what you should invest into!" For OpenAI - the ballistic trajectory just got set in stone. But Greg and Sam are just getting started ??.
