Boolean Strings Newsletter Issue #7

Boolean Strings Newsletter Issue #7

1. Continued feedback and actions from LinkedIn Engineering – notably, on Industry V2

(Based on LinkedIn Recruiter Input notes from Marcel and Irina. I have shared the previous LinkedIn Engineering feedback on the Facebook Boolean Group.)

Industry Issue?– The majority of this will get fixed with IndustryV2 rollout. This is the “upgrade” to the new taxonomy I told you about before. This has ramped internally (we test everything first internally, of course) already, and should be at 99% ramped by early Feb, if deployment and A/B test go okay. So you should see this improve substantially in the next two weeks to three weeks (if not before, because we ramp from 0-100 percent over time.

Continent search issue?- to recap, this is the one where searches were coming back incomplete because the search was too large. We’re implementing an error state to better handle this (as we discussed). The BE (Back end) changes are already deployed, but there is some FE (front end – UI) polish being done this week. Should be fully resolved by Jan 17.

Network Relationships?– This one isn’t done.?We are trying to figure out exactly how to make this cleaner, as these are hard to reproduce at scale.?But we are still actively working on it (as in I have engineers assigned to it this quarter).

?? A Little more follow up here.?The “industry” stuff (what we call “Industry v2” internally) is now rolling out.?Here’s a little more info, but this has already ramped to a small percentage of folks, and will roll out to at least half of the population within about a week, and the rest (Assuming all goes well, of course) not long after that.?So within the next couple weeks (somewhere in there) your account should see these changes.?It is random who gets it of course.

As a reminder, Today, Recruiter & LinkedIn Talent Insights users are missing out on qualified candidates because our current Industry taxonomy is not granular enough, not precise enough, and not aligned to other data sources they utilize.?“It is difficult finding home care professionals under the current 4 healthcare related industries. With the rapid acceleration for hiring in healthcare, it would be helpful if we had more accuracy on the professionals in the Home Care industry.”??We believe through introducing Industry V2 we will provide a way for hirers to identify all qualified candidates based on their industry as a result of the Industry V2 improvements:?

  • Increase in available V2 industries?
  • Increase in member industry Coverage and precision improvements?
  • Alignment with?NAICS?standards

We will Introduce a new Industry taxonomy for Recruiters to identify qualified candidates in Recruiter & LinkedIn Talent Insights (LTI).?

I do not think they have quite fixed the location issue. I see all sorts of problems. ?? Emailed Dan.

Thank you as ever Irina for sharing your insights. I and several others are experiencing issues with LIR as I type and can't help wondering if this is a function of the new taxonomy going into place. I've never understood why they didn't simply use the NAICS in the first place. While perhaps too granular, it was at least a well-recognized standard and I'm sure many had mapped it out to something a little more related to their needs.
