As a book enthusiast and the author of a self-help book, INCONTROL: A Systematic Approach to Taking Complete Control of Your Life and Career, my life has always greatly revolved around books, books, and…more books. As much as reading books have helped me get in control of my life and made me a better person, there is nothing better than sharing the joy of reading books I love.
This week, I would like to share a few of the many books that have made me a more conscious person. Consciousness can be defined as the ability to stay aware and mindful. The conscious mind encompasses all there is in your awareness. This includes thoughts, feelings, perceptions, sensations, memories, or fantasies. Our conscience is what gives us a sense of what is right and wrong.?
Below is a list of books that I have personally read, enjoyed, and most importantly, learned something from.
Consciousness Explained by Daniel Dennett
Named one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times, Consciousness Explained explores human consciousness by bringing “consciousness” out of the realms of mystery and making it an albeit complex, yet scientific and decipherable subject. In effect, human thoughts and emotions are greatly simplified representations of hidden, complex computations–just like a computer interface!
My thoughts on this book:?
Definitely not an easy read because of the usage of technical terms and new concepts in the book, but it had tremendously broadened my horizon by the time I was done with it. Daniel Dennett’s scientific approach to systematically explaining a complicated concept made this an interesting read.
"What you can imagine depends on what you know." – Daniel C. Dennett, the author of Consciousness Explained.

Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck
The foundation of Finding Your Own North Star is pretty simple and straightforward: get yourself out of a life that is “wrong” for you and look for what makes you truly happy. In order to do so,? you will first have to read the internal compasses already built into your brain and body, recognize the signs, heal whatever is stopping you from fulfilling your potential, and eventually change your life.
My thoughts on this book:
An incredible book for assessing and reassessing your purpose in life. It not only inspires and gives hope and encouragement for one's intuition, Martha Beck also offers clear and doable advice to taking this inspiration and truly finding one's destiny. In short, you already have what it takes; all you need next is a direction.
“Your first daily priority should be stillness, attention to what you really know and what you really feel.” – Martha Beck, the author of Finding Your Own North Star.

Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
Man's Search For Meaning is a work of non-fiction that deals with Viktor Frankl's experience living in Nazi concentration camps and his insightful exploration of the human will to find their meaning in life despite facing the worst of adversities.

My thoughts on this book:
According to the author, meaning comes from three possible sources: purposeful work, love, and courage, which are among the things I personally could not have made it where I am today without. This book is a hymn to humankind's ability to always rise above, to find our own individual meaning to our existence, and why we should continue doing our very best on our individual journeys.
“Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'.” – Viktor E. Frankl, the author of Man's Search for Meaning

Last but not least,
INCONTROL: A Systematic Approach to Taking Complete Control of Your Life and Career by Reza Abraham (me!)
InControl by Dr. Reza Abraham (yours truly) is like how the subtitle suggests, is a systematic approach to taking complete control of one’s life and career. It is a book that offers the readers a gift of timeless lessons, grounded on lived experience, years of research, and compelling stories. It WILL NOT make you invisible or be able to do whatever you want in your life, but it WILL help you to define what you are actually in control of, how to leverage it, and why it is important in the first place. Whether you are looking for a key tactic, a novel perspective of my InControl journey, or a meaningful change in your life and career, this book is for you.
Thoughts from Stephanie Owen, the author of Complete. The Gift of Happiness:
“In his book InControl, Dr. Reza takes you on an inner journey of discoveries so that you get to live the life you want. A must-read for anybody wanting to reach their highest potential”
Thoughts from Marta Kondryn, the author of HR Atlas:
“Reza created an amazing but simple framework to change our mindsets and lifestyles, by taking control of all aspects of our lives. We might live a life that we think is amazing, ignoring a whisper in our soul about what we honestly want, but when we finally listen to this voice, miracles will happen. This book will become our best companion and support system in this process”?
