We officially kick of the Fall 2024 semester today at the
Texas McCombs School of Business
at
美国德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校
In response to a few requests, here is my updated list of #podcasts, #books and other #suggestions for the upcoming year. Your suggestions are always welcomed.
-
David Epstein
’s Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World. A valuable book for anyone considering or changing their career or in a parenting, teaching, coaching position. Best quote from page 290, "Don't feel behind." Great emphasis in Chapter 4 on how we need to move academia away from coddling and towards offering the chance to make mistakes, the chance to be challenged and other forms of desirable difficulties, even as the status quo disincentives a focus on long-run learning.
- For thoughtful, grounded and accessible thoughts on life and personal finances, check out

’s Same as Ever: A Guide to What Never Changes and the Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness

6 个月Hey, professor, it's good to hear from you. I’m a big fan of Morgan Housel myself. Check out his podcast on Spotify, “The Morgan Housel Podcast.” It's not the most creative name, but it has great content. Most episodes are 10-15 minutes long and cover a wide range of topics, most of them related to his two books. I hope everything is well on your end

6 个月Range is an amazing suggestion, great book, it really resonated with me!
This makes me wish I was still in school and participate in discussion. Counterintuitively, I often see this penalized in industry where breadth of skills is valued much less than depth. Following your curiosities and marketing that as a strength is a tightrope indeed.
