Books For Leaders

Books For Leaders

Books. I read a lot. I love to learn. These are some of the books I highly recommend for leaders. What's on your leadership 'must read' list?

Extreme Ownership (by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin)

Great read for all leaders. It has become my leadership manifesto. Its main tenets are: Cover & Move (teamwork); Simple; Prioritize & Execute; and Decentralized Command (teaching and allowing your leaders to lead). It will change how you lead. It works.

Hacking Growth (by Sean Ellis & Morgan Brown)

Turn your teams loose to test and learn a myriad of growth ideas. Promote cross departmental collaboration leveraging your best talent. Increase your company's entrepreneurial prowess. Go farther...faster. Great read. (Thanks for the recommendation, Dave!)

Tribal Leadership (by Dave Logan, John King, & Halee Fischer-Wright)

Learn the 5 levels of team (Life Sucks; My Life Sucks; I'm Great; We're Great; Life Is Great), why they matter, and how to progress your organization to the highest level. (Thanks for the recommmendation, Jay!)

Relentless (by Tim S. Grover)

Michael Jordan was already the best basketball player in the world. However, his quest for excellence didn't stop there. He hired Tim Grover to make him the absolute best he could be. This is the story of what happened next.

Antifragile (by Nassim Nicholas Taleb)

This is a heady read by a great modern-day philosopher. Learn not only about systems that gain from chaos but need it to thrive. (Thanks for the recommendation, Kerry!)

How To Win Friends And Influence People (by Dale Carnegie)

My mother was a big Toastmasters participant (one of the first females in the country to join a club), Dale Carnegie fan, and Zig Ziglar desciple. It influenced me. She took me to their events and speaking engagements starting when I was about 10 years old. This goes into the "Says easy; done hard" category. Ignore its principles, and you will sub optimize your performance. (Thanks for the recommendation, Mom!)
