Books That Changed the Way I Think About Data
Over the years, a few books have truly shaped my understanding of how to use and present data effectively. There are plenty of books out there, but these have stood out for me in the age of “data is the new gold.”
We’ve evolved from basic data, to reports, to dashboards, to stories, and now, AI is pushing the limits even further. Yet, one thing remains constant: data gives us a clearer understanding of what’s happening, and we need to harness that power to make better decisions.
One quote that has been stuck in my head for years:
“Pie charts are evil.”? Among the things, they are deceiving and hard to analyze. (Thanks to Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic !)
Here are a few more valuable ideas and questions that have stuck with me from these books:
? “It all starts with curiosity.”
? “Correlation does not imply causation.”
? “What is a good model?”
? “Focus on critical data elements”
? “What makes data big?”
These concepts may seem simple, but they’ve had a profound impact on how I approach data storytelling and analysis.
From the data-related books you’ve read, what’s one idea that’s stuck with you?

2 个月Awesome picks, Joe! Totally agree—things are moving so fast with AI and data these days. I remember how much we relied on data back when we worked together at Televisa Blim—it was a game-changer. Definitely going to check a few of these out. Thanks for sharing!
