The Book in You – Part 2: Why Are You Writing a Book?

Writing a book can be a massive endeavor. Having your purpose in mind will help you finish your book. Your motivation will shape your approach and determine the book’s success.

First thoughts about becoming an author sometimes include ideas of bestsellers and fame. Although those are possibilities, they are very hard to achieve. Having a reason that can benefit you in a more tangible way will help you find success with your book, and who knows, you may be a best-seller, too!

Think about why you are writing the book. If you are not sure, here are some reasons to help guide you to your purpose.

1. Telling a Story

  • Personal Narratives: Do you have a story that could inspire others? Sharing your experiences can serve as a powerful example and resonate deeply with readers.

2. Building Your Brand

  • Expert Positioning: Writing a book can elevate your reputation as an expert in your field, helping you establish authority and trust with your audience.

3. Growing Your Business

  • Showcasing Your Expertise: A book can enhance your business by demonstrating why customers should choose your services or products.

4. Teaching a Skill

  • Educational Resource: If you have a valuable process or skill to share, writing a book can help others benefit from your knowledge.

5. Documenting History

  • Preserving Memories: Documenting experiences, whether personal or historical, can ensure they are remembered and shared with future generations.

I have a friend who wrote a book to preserve his life stories for his family. It is a fascinating read, and I encourage him to edit it for a public audience because it is inspiring.

I have another associate who wrote a book as a companion to his training program.

I also know speakers who have written books to sell in the back of the room of their presentations.

All these authors have achieved their goals with their books. Having a purpose in mind can help you, too.

  4. Brand Enhancement: A well-written book can significantly boost your brand.
  5. Business Growth: Leveraging your book can lead to new business opportunities.

People deserve to hear your message. Find your purpose and write your book.
