Book Review: "Team Human" by Douglas Rushkoff

Halfway into reading "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism" by Shoshana Zuboff, I wanted to read something 'lighter', so I chose another writer who's name also ends with -off ;) All kidding aside, during the first Humaton someone sitting next to me recommended the book "Team Human" by Douglas Rushkoff. The cover actually give the best summary: "Our technologies, markets, and cultural institutions- once forces for human connection and expression - now isolate and repress us. It's tome to remake society together, not as individual players but as the ter are actually are: Team Human."

Find the others

The last chapter of the book, Chapter 100, only contains three words: "Find the others." And, obviously the book is about the fight against the 'winner takes all' tech companies and that it seems our future and our society are cemented. But Rushkoff motivated with this book to create our own destiny.

In Chapter 97 he writes: "Things may look bleak, but the future is open and up for invention.

We mistakenly treat the future as something to prepare for. Companies and governments hire scenario planners to lay out the future landscape as if it were a static phenomenon. ... 

But the future is not something we arrive at so much as something we create through our actions in the present. ...

The future is less a noun than a verb, a thing we do."
