Who is this for?

People who like to listen to or read memoirs.

Why was it written?

This is Stanley Tucci’s exploration of one of his great passions: food. As he puts it in an October 5, 2021 interview with Town & Country, “I would never write an autobiography; to me, the only way to do it was to take the most crucial common defining factor of who I am. I couldn't just write I was born in a small town, and then I went on to act. Who cares? It has to be everything, and there has to be a weave to it. Otherwise, it’s just like, ‘yeah, great, you made some movies and then sometimes you didn't work and then sometimes you did.' Who cares?"?

A Personal Note

I really enjoyed this book. This book reminded me of the many Italian families I knew growing up in New Jersey who would say to me, “Come. Sit. Eat.” ?I listened to this book as narrated by Tucci. As he shares family stories or tales of memorable meals with dear friends, he manages to pepper the pages with recipes of food and drink while revealing his personal value system. Tucci's delivery while he describes scene and setting weaves the fastidious and the snooty with empathy, humility and love. If you can imagine listening to David Hyde Pierce’s Niles Crane from the Sitcom Frasier, then you won’t be too far off from Tucci’s enunciations and inflections. Taste is cheerful and heartwarming. ?I would recommend this to all fans of food, family and film.
