Book Review : Sources of Power - How People Make Decisions by Gary Klein

One of the things that a lot of people struggle with is having an appropriate decision making structure put in place. At least, I know this was one of my biggest weaknesses and I found out the hard way that the key to making a decision on one thing or another is to just make the decision.

Whether it’s right or wrong is irrelevant but the most important thing is deciding on a choice and committing to it. If it’s the wrong one, you can always change but if its the right one you’ll never know the alternative and dwelling over whether or not your decision is correct can be paralyzing and stunt your growth. I have seen countless ads for Decision making master classes from Quest Protein founder Tom Bilyeu but I’ve always been skeptical of sitting through a virtual class or real class. It didn’t quite seem to work for me with zoom meetings so I decided to try an alternative and read “Sources of Power - How People Make Decisions”?

This book was a very difficult read as there’s a lot of tiny words and not many photos but it definitely packs in the most useable knowledge and info. I was skeptical at first on how I would be able to relate the books info into my daily usage because the first half of the book is coverage on how Fire Fighters make lightening quick decision and what their decision paths are based off of and how they arrived at their conclusion. We’ve all seen images of firefighters rescuing people but how do these individuals make the split second decision that save lives? This book proposes a naturalist approach to decision making which views people as gaining experience that enables them to use a combo of intuition and analyst to make decisions.?

As a sales person sometimes using intuition to figure out if a prospect is serious or not can be a super power for closing deals. The quicker you can get to a NO the quicker you will get to a YES. This booked has helped me in countless ways to figure out how to make a decision in business and in life.?
