BOOK REVIEW: THE POWER OF PURPOSE

Anuradha Khoda, PhD Mercy Kimani Kimari Kimari Alice R. Ngigi

The book The Power of Purpose: a guide to finding your Life’s mission is organized in six chapters. The chapters are intentionally packaged and ordered as a compass to a life’s mission. The book is a great read. It starts with deliberations on understanding purpose. The author clarifies the difference between purpose and goals. The author alludes and I concur that purpose gives life meaning, it’s motivating and enhances fulfillment. Those who discover purpose live more meaningful lives.

The second chapter deals with discovering passions and talents which form part of the DNA of establishing one’s purpose. Talents and passions are intertwined with one’s mission on this planet. Talents and passions used well, one does not need outer motivation to excel. The third chapter addresses one’s values and beliefs.? The values and beliefs forms ones character, influences one’s orientation and Culture and is a powerful core foundation of being.

Dr. Anuradha guides the reader in crafting smart goals and how to implement them. Indeed, many people make goals but fail in the execution, putting the plan to action. The Author eludes that goals and plans implemented leads one to the desired destination. We have to be strategic in setting goals, developing plans and executing the same with an in-build monitoring and review to measure progress.

The fifth Chapter looks at possible limitations, obstacles and challenges we may experience in pursuing our purpose. The strategies of overcoming obstacles are well elucidated. The last chapter ends with advising the reader to be intentional in having daily activities as habits as a vehicle to live our purpose and experience a more meaningful life in the journey of life.

I highly recommend this book as a great read and a life practical guide. It has accompanying personal exercises at the end of each chapter, making the book greatly invaluable. The practical stories delivering succinct points are priceless.
