My Story Friend is a magnificently emotive children’s story with a message that will reach the hearts of children and adults alike. Thank you to the author – Kalli Dakos, illustrator – Dream Chen, and publisher Magination Press and the American Psychological Association for this beautifully created e-ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
My Story Friend is an illustrated children’s book that breaks down the two people who listen to a story – the person who tells it and the person who hears. The person who hears your story holds a place for you and is an essential part of shaping who you are. Telling our stories – good and bad, shape us. How our “story friend” listens and holds space for us shapes us as well.
As someone who has struggled with depression and as a parent to two children, this book laid out the power of a “story friend” in an uplifting and simple way. I now have a word for those who have heard my stories and helped me heal and for how I show up for my children’s stories as well.
I recommend this be read by everyone who has a story to tell, at least once.
Read On,
SJ
