BOOK REVIEW: Fleishman Is In Trouble

? The divorce and descent into madness of Doctor Toby Fleishman

? The book offered a good treatment of upper class Manhattan society that brought out the tensions, contradictions, and pratfalls. In all a balanced view that avoided the farcical that would have been a cliché and overly critical. Similarly, the portrayal of Fleishman and, most importantly, his wife who we feel some sympathy for and can empathize with despite her outrageous and irresponsible behavior.

? A number of the supporting characters were more caricatures or stereotypes than full-formed personalities. Repetitive elements in the plot were annoying.
