Unless one is living under a rock, it is hard to ignore all the news err. drama w.r.t. all the news and acts of Elon Musk; one of the most relevant technologists and entrepreneurs of our times. While I may not be a fan of the personality that is depicted on media it is hard to ignore all the news. Hence, when Walter Isaacson's biography was released, I ordered the moment I heard about it and finished it over one long night. (It may have something to do with Family travelling outstation, but I cannot confirm or deny that without the approval of the Home Minister)
The book is a fascinating look at Musk's life and career, from his early days as a child prodigy to his current status as one of the richest people in the world. Isaacson does a great job of explaining Musk's complex personality and motivations, and he provides insights into the challenges and setbacks that Musk has faced along the way.
One of the things I found most inspiring about Musk is his commitment to his vision. He's not afraid to take risks or to challenge the status quo. In fact, he seems to thrive on it. Musk is also a relentless worker who is known for putting in long hours. He sets high standards for himself and his team, but he also provides them with the resources and support they need to succeed.
Another thing I learned from Musk is the importance of perseverance. He has faced many setbacks in his career, but he has never given up on his dreams. Musk is also a master of learning from his mistakes. He's not afraid to admit when he's wrong, and he's always looking for ways to improve.

Here are a few specific takeaways from the book that I think are particularly relevant to people team professionals:
I encourage all HR professionals to read Walter Isaacson's biography of Elon Musk. It's a great book that can teach us a lot about leadership, innovation, and perseverance. One challenge though like with every Isaacson book, this is damn long. If I had not finished it in one night, probably would have never finished it.

1 年Really great article. The book is a fascinating read. I'd like to add his insistence on hiring people with the right attitude. As mentioned in the book, skills can be taught, but changing attitude requires "a brain transplant."
