David E Navarro's book of haiku and essays, A Tree Frog's Eyes, is wonderful and inspiring, filled with haiku that are evocative and rich with great imagery and vivid atmospheres.
The interesting and detailed Foreword allows the reader to discover the poet's deep inner world along with his erudite thoughts. Navarro's connection to Nature, God, and Life, underscored by his Zen thinking and approach, is profound and can be traced anywhere in his book.
I was especially impressed by his monoku— the sun in the moon in my eyes at night —which conveys Navarro's love for the Universe and his desire to warmly reconnect to it. He loves "sitting with trees" and "walking the river with eyes". Navarro has obviously enjoyed each moment of his adventurous life through all seasons, never tiring of this "wondrous" Earth.
Seasons come and go however, each brings new beginnings. His technique is precise and bright; his choice of words always appropriate and intense.
Delightful illustrations introduce you to each chapter and don't forget to read the epilogue [Afterword].
Be sure to turn your cell phones off! Silence gives you the opportunity to appreciate the delicate yet vibrant atmospheres in this book.

Note: A must read for all those desiring to enjoy an adventurous trek through nature via haiku and essays as well as desiring to learn about writing "pure land" haiku as a poetry of being.

[Author's Note: You have nothing to lose but anxiety, stress, fear, and boredom; and everything to gain by checking out my book. The Kindle sells for LESS than the price of a cup of coffee from your café—seriously. Coffee runs out. You come to the bottom of the cup. This book is a treasure that keeps filling you up over and over again. There is no bottom to the book. You can keep diving deeper and deeper and expanding in breadth all you want. That's why I say, "This book is an adventure in the hands of the reader."]
