Summary:
The author, Robin Wall Kimmerer, a Potawatomi professor shares Indigenous Wisdom through storytelling. You will read about Skywoman falling and the creation of Turtle Island. You will learn how Indigenous Peoples learned survival techniques through the Teachings of Plants; did you know trees communicate amongst themselves???You will discover why strawberries, corn, beans, and squash are so prevalent and important to the Indigenous way of life.
Sweetgrass, the original plant, represents the hair of Mother Earth. It is traditionally braided to show love and care. Braids are given away as signs of kindness and gratitude.
Beautiful written, Braiding Sweetgrass is a book you don’t have to read all at once. Read it story by story then read it again.
Evaluation:
This book will open your mind (if you allow it) to an alternative or complementary approach to Western science.
Conclusion:
I would give the book a 5 out of 5.
