Book review of the audiobook - The year of less by Cait Flanders

My love of reading began at an early age, with books being my refuge and also a friend who taught me ways of the world, starting from Enid Blyton books. It was only natural that I start a book club with a fellow reading aficionado. Since, I love building communities this one soon grew in a substantial number with regular meetups. Then, Covid hit and for many of us women, especially mothers, reading time became a luxury.

This year, I was approached by the really dynamic and book lovers of team Storytel India. Thus, began a journey of its kind - a listening club for women to reclaim their 'me time'.

We kickstarted the audiobook club - 'Talking Stories' with a meaningful read or rather listen.

As real as it gets with this memoir - ‘The year of less’ by Cait Flanders and narrated by the author herself. The book though published before the pandemic, it’s a thought process perfectly captured of the pandemic times.?

How all of us were forced to assess the lives we are living and why. Plus with the lockdowns and staying at home made us relook at our homes, at the things we own.

The author has narrated her journey so well that it felt I was taking the whole personal growth journey with her. While she was reflecting on her life decisions and her emotional life, I was doing the same for myself. Her journey of looking at her past, her relationships, her family and slowly healing and transforming with regular updates on her progress showed her commitment to herself and as a reader inspired me to have the similar accountability for myself. Without delving into too many details, I will simply sign off by saying that if you feel the need to change things in your life about your excessive shopping, learning to love yourself, accepting your past mistakes and creating a better life for yourself in the present then this is one book you should definitely add to your TBR.
