Book Project Preface

There are times that we are in transition, not because we want to be, but circumstances demand it. Sometimes that move is the need to care for a loved one(s). Sometimes the move is because the company is making a strategic shift in their business and your services are no longer required. Sometimes it is because the company is a poor cultural fit to your values. Sometimes it is the result of leadership changes and changing priorities. Sometimes it is being a victim of a political battle that was lost. Sometimes your company may have been acquired or just gone out of business. Sometimes you were not the right person for the job. And particularly painful, in a haunting kind of way, sometimes you don’t even know why. Regardless of the reason, being a seasoned professional in a forced transition is tough and requires the need to heal yourself first before transitioning to bring the best versions of yourself to your new world.

As we move through this inner journey, organizing the path in the following format provides some direction. We will explore these major steps:

  • Managing the Moment, while we cannot control the circumstances, we can manage our emotions about it.
  • The Self Evaluation, which would include honestly evaluating the situation and yourself.
  • How to Build Your Confidence Back, which includes taking the time necessary to breathe, refresh, and refocus.
  • Clarify Your Brand, which includes knowing your worth, purpose, vision and how you will present yourself going forward.
  • Expand Your Community, which is about the best ways to build your network and make your ordinary networks extraordinary.
  • How to Interview Differently, which will include perspective and insights that support you getting the position you were made for.
  • Keep the Faith, which includes the support systems necessary to stay the course, remain flexible, but not compromise on critical elements of you plan.

This is a unique experience and has the potential to set you apart from your peers. This experience will be a crucible moment that will burn off impurities and move you to a more authentic, aligned, and pure space.

Having worked with individuals in this situation this excerpt is right on the mark. This information would be so useful in helping impacted individuals process what happened and move positively towards the next opportunity. I look forward to the reading the rest.
