Book launch in Howick. Join me if you can

The book: "Names Will Never Hurt Me: How to Deal With People Who Minimise You, Ignore You, Abuse You and Bully You".

The launch: Sunday 18 August, from 11am-12noon

Address: Poppies Books, 83 Picton street, Howick, Auckland

The book came about when I was working with care-workers in the retirement sector. Originally, I was asked to help these lovely people build high performing teams, but it became clear very quickly that what they needed help with was dealing with grumpy patients, demanding families, exhausted co-workers and bosses who were struggling with lack of staff and their own short fuses.

Because the care-workers were based all over New Zealand, I ran my training as a series of webinars. As we discussed dealing with difficult people, I would explain:

·???????? What to say, when to say it and HOW to say it when dealing with grumpy people

·???????? What to do with reactions to them speaking up, and there will always be reactions

·???????? How to deal with abuse, minimizing and downright rudeness

·???????? How to decide whether the person dishing out the ‘nastiness’ was a bully, an harasser or just a person dealing with their own stress

·???????? What to do if the person dishing out the nastiness was a friend or family member

We're a country under stress at the moment. I hear exhausted staff are being subjected to unpleasant treatment by customers who are equally tired, stressed and grumpy. I’m also aware from some of the calls I’m receiving, that many families are dealing with the stresses of job loss and financial worries. Not everyone is able to cope with their sudden loss of income and status, so they take it out on others.

Given all that's happening I felt it worthwhile to turn my training into an actual book. To share strategies for dealing with unacceptable and sometimes terrifying behaviours, either at work or in the home.

If you’re unable to attend the book launch, the book is now available on my website .

My final thought: ‘If someone treats you badly, remember there’s something wrong with them, not you. Normal people don’t go around destroying other human beings.’?
