Book Launch: Creating Innovation Spaces - Impulses for Start-ups and Established Companies in Global Competition
Ilkay ?zkisaoglu
Powering Your Presence With LinkedIn? | Corporate Thought Leadership Coach to and Industry Ambassador of Technology, Innovation & Sustainable Composites Solutions
I am delighted to introduce you to my latest project. Thanks to Volker Nestle, Patrick Glauner, Philipp Plugmann's invitation I am now officially an author. You can buy the entire book or my chapter that revolves around the strategic application of Linkedin.
Without a doubt there are tons of great Linkedin coaches out there, but none of them view Linkedin in a strategic way, let alone give innovative companies and start-ups guidance as to how to use Linkedin to gain track with their innovation. Therefore, my idea was to contribute with a chapter to scholar-practitioner knowledge on management for professionals.

Book Summary
"The book offers fresh impulses from different industries on how to deal with innovation processes. Authors from different backgrounds, such as artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, medical technology and law, share their experiences with enabling and managing innovation. The ability of companies to innovate functions as a benchmark to attract investors long-term. While each company has different preconditions and environments to adapt to, the authors give guidance in the fields of digitalization, workspaces and business model innovation." Title: Professional Social Media and Innovation: How you start leveraging on your innovation through strategic content creation on Linkedin (click to go to Springer link)
Executive Summary
"Have you ever considered what role professional social media could play in conjunction with your innovation?
My name is Ilkay ?zkisaoglu and am a community architect on Linkedin. Building communities that drive innovation for the good of society is what drives me, and I would like to take you to a bit of a private journey in this book.
This chapter in this grand collection, will be different in that I will give you some personal insights as to why I wanted to become visible for the innovation community, how I built a personal brand and how I generate high ticket leads through content creation on Linkedin.
If you believe professional social media comprises only cat videos and other viral content, you will be surprised how in particular Linkedin can help you implement your innovation in the market-place.
I registered with Linkedin in August 2008, just shortly prior the Lehman Brothers collapse, because back then my US affiliates requested a profile for their US American customers and a presence of their German supplier on Linkedin. My first impression was that Linkedin is a job and recruiting portal and had nothing to do with business. So, I left my rudimentary profile unattended with minor revisions reflecting my career steps only up until 2018.
Even when I left my corporate job in November 2015 to pursue my dream of being a freelance Business Development Consultant, still Linkedin did not resonate with me and I did not perceive it as an exception to the other even more known social media (SoMe) platforms.
Around autumn 2018 I realized Linkedin was changing, very fast. While browsing the feed I found a few peculiar content creators from the US and Dubai that were presenting content in a format that now fully resonated with me. Rather than providing and giving dull information, the level of attractive presentation appealed to me. Suddenly, there was native video that summed up professional learnings. Professional how-to videos were all over the places and I realized the international, English-speaking community was clearly up-to-speed on Linkedin.
The most important aspect that caught my attention was the level of personal branding that was sort of completely new to me. We know the classic one way advertising and the building of a corporate brand.
This personal branding on the other side, was exciting, because it is more relatable to the person, rather than the corporate.
With this approach I found that I could be better able to address one of the major issues any innovative undertaking has and that is the implementation of the innovation in the market-place.
Why is it that I am so overly certain that innovation struggles more with the implementation rather the creative part?
I am assigned among 1,000 business innovation coaches by the EASME, the European Agency of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (Brussels, Belgium), that is an institution of the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium). Whereas most coaches have their focus on lean production, supply chain management, IT architecture and finance, my focus is on business development and I was frequently selected as a coach for more than a dozen beneficiaries that received grants from the 20 billion heavy “Horizon 2020” program. This program is about to be replaced by the “European Innovation Council” and I will continue coaching.
The pattern on hand is that beneficiaries’ innovative CEOs, creatively live, learn and work on their innovation, but often fail both in understanding the market developmental side and gaining track on the innovation with their potential customers. Even though everyone thrives for innovation, it remains a struggle to develop markets with innovations. There are a variety of reasons that I have identified in my coaching praxis. Taking this further I would like to show you how these issues can be tackled by using professional SoMe, in particular Linkedin." (?zkisaoglu, I. in Nestle V. et al, 2021)
