Book fashionista

There’s a smash-up happening that you might not be aware of.

Fashion and books/writing are on-trend in more ways than one.

Valentino’s 2024 menswear collection channels Hanya Yanagihara’s novel, A Little Life

Anna Sui’s collection is inspired by Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and first editions of Virginia Wolf.

Hello to the ‘haute bookshop’

Apparently, Paris is about to become the centre of the ‘haute bookshop’.

Yves Saint Laurent has opened Saint Laurent Babylone in the 7th arrondissement.

Since 2019 YSL's in house publishing unit has been collaborating with creative talents to produce 'one of a kind, limited edition art books' I have watched this trend in book publishing for a few years now and see it really as an antidote for AI-generated rubbish books that are flooding book publishing.

Those that appreciate good writing, publishing and books will, more and more, seek out beautifully written, produced and published books. Limited Edition books will become true collectables, along with first editions. And, I predict that this trend/style can be (and should be) applied to business books - but that's another article. Back to book fashonista.

Comme de Garcons is opening the next iteration of Dover Street Market in Paris with a book space called Librairie 1909 .

Channel has had a bookstore, 7L, since 1999 on Rue de Lille and is starting a multidisciplinary arts program later this year.

March Jacobs also has a bookshop

He also shares the books he is reading on Insta .

As ‘creatives’ – fashion designers and writers have been connected for many decades. Virginia Woolf and her novel Orlando (great movie and soundtrack by the way) have inspired collections from Fendi, Givenchy and Burberry.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein was a reference for Gucci.

Yves Saint Laurent had a thing for Proust.

Then there’s the whole trend of writing/literature on fabrics

And now there’s shirt poetry.
