I loved reading as a youngster, and at school literature was my favourite class, in my late teens and twenties I stopped reading aside from the odd book on holiday. Over the last couple of years, I have started slowly to read more books and specifically read nonfiction books around people, business, leadership, health, our minds and I’m back in love with reading and learning!
A client and friend of mine Harry Thomas recently posted on social media about his own experiences of reading and shared some of the books he’s read which gave me food for thought, so I’ve decided to share some which I’ve read.
If you’re interested in the post, I would love to hear your book recommendations, don’t limit yourself on the topic, as you can see my list is varied to say the least.
Bounce – Matthew Syed, I've read this and a couple of others from Matthew but this is my favourite. It breaks down the argument of nature and nurture when it comes to success and is excellent.
The Four - Scott Galloway, a great insight into the 4 biggest brands in our lives today, understanding what makes them tick and where they're headed.
The 5am Club - Robin Sharma, I've just started this but I'm 30 pages in and know I'm going to love it.
Eat that Frog - Brian Tracey (thank you Justin Byrne, I'm still reading this again and again)! Was recommended to read this when I started in recruitment and it still sticks with me, I recommend others to read who are beginning in recruitment or an industry where they will daily feel like there's load to be done!
The 7 habits of highly effective people - Stephen Covey, anyone starting off their career in any sector who has ambition and drive should read this, the end.
The Naked Chef - Jamie Oliver, the book which really launched my passion for cooking, coming from a catering family i was immersed in food from an early age but this book gave me my own recipes and direction when it came to cooking.
The River Cafe Cook Book - Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers, my favourite restaurant ever and lots of insane recipes, it's old but great if love Italian food!
Sapiens - Yuval Noah Harari, the history of humankind with a focus on homo sapiens and a real change in direction from the most of the above. I loved challenging myself to think in a very different way
The Clever Guts Diet - Dr Michael Mosley, it feels like I've read a lot over the last few years from so called experts on our guts, health, diet etc and I'm not always sure what is true and not. So to read a book based on science was interesting and factual and allowed me to understand more around my own body and health.

5 年Great post Lloyd. We focus on reading in the team to keep learning and sharing what helps us get better. Recently we've all read Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss. It's an amazing insight into his life as an FBI negotiator and packed with tools for the real world. On a personal level I've read Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins three times on Audible. It has change my mindset for good.
