Book Bites "GRIT"

Book Bites "GRIT"

The topic of today's book brings back flashbacks of a time when I was extremely obsessed with "GRIT." Following a TED talk by the author Angela Duckworth that I watched, I wanted to learn about this intriguing concept and reflect on how it can be implemented in my life and my organization. This was in 2018, and I believe some of my friends and family members would remember me constantly sharing the concept.

So, "GRIT" is defined by the author as passion and perseverance for long-term goals. She wrote about it after conducting extensive research on what makes successful people. In her research, she discovered that talent alone does not drive success, but the effort a person puts into achieving the goal counts twice as much, as it is reflected in developing the skill and applying it towards the goal.

In her book, she discusses how you can foster grit through interest, passion, and purpose. She introduced a tool that she developed, which allows you to measure how much grit you have and puts it on a scale. You can find the tool here . On the website founded by the author, there are interesting playbooks on character development.

She also discusses the role of parents in cultivating grit in their kids. One concept that really resonated with me was that when children pick an activity, such as playing the piano, they might get bored after some time. However, if you agree with them that they need to stick with it for a while until they reach a certain level of capability, they learn not to quit when things are not interesting or when they face challenges.

I think understanding the concept of grit is very important in today's world. We are exposed to a world of exciting things to do, and we face many difficulties as we learn new skills. After identifying what we really want to do, putting effort into developing the skill and implementing it takes us a long way.

Have you read the book? Any thoughts on my review? If you haven't, do you think this is a book that would interest you?
