Host, Hello Monday with Jessi Hempel | Senior Editor at Large @ LinkedIn
On Hello Monday we talk about how work is changing and how we must change to make the most of it—but none of that is possible if we feel awful. As the pandemic drags on into the fall, a lot of people are feeling bad. Burnt out. Stressed. Depressed. My colleague Michaela Greer suggested we need to be talking about this. If we're struggling to cope, how can we possibly have a career conversation?
So this week, the Hello Monday team brings you a special bonus episode, hosted by Michaela. She interviews Dr. Rheeda Walker, a licensed clinical psychologist and tenured professor of psychology at the University of Houston. Dr. Walker specializes in the area of Black mental Health - particularly as it affects Black women and children.
There’s often a stigma in seeking out help—especially if you are a person of faith—because, after all, nothing is supposed to get you down. So it’s hard to admit you might need support.
Dr. Walker has titled her book: "The Unapologetic Guide to Black Mental Health." So Michaela started the conversation by asking Dr. Walker what she would say to someone who looked at her book and said, “I’m fine. I’ll pass. Not for me.”
I hope you enjoy the episode, and let us know what you think of it in the comments. You can find it here, or listen below. Meanwhile, I'll be back on Monday with a new episode!
