Bonkers for Buses
I indulged my inner transportation geek with a visit to the New York Transit Museum ’s 2024 Bus Festival — an annual event I have wanted to attend for ages. On display beneath the Brooklyn side of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge were buses spanning nearly a century of service across the five boroughs, beginning with a 1931 double-decker. Growing up in New York City, I rode four of the models on display. And, no, the double-decker wasn’t one of them. Nor was the Ralph Kramden (“The Honeymooners”) model. I’m not THAT old!
Photographing these beauties was not easy with thousands of people swarming around and aboard each one. I was frankly stunned that so many others share my passion for these transit treasures that have been so beautifully preserved.
