Bona Pharma read: mucosal atomization device ( MAD)
WHAT IS mucosal atomization device
A mucosal atomization device (MAD) is a medical device that is used to administer medications into the nasal cavity. It is commonly used for drugs such as naloxone, which is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, and midazolam, which is used to treat seizures.
The MAD device consists of a small plastic or metal device with a nozzle that is attached to a syringe. The medication is drawn into the syringe and then injected into the device. When the device is activated, it produces a fine mist that is sprayed into the nasal cavity, where it is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream through the mucous membranes.
MAD devices are commonly used in emergency medicine settings, such as hospitals and ambulances, as they are an effective and non-invasive way to administer medications rapidly. They are also used in other settings where rapid drug absorption is needed, such as in the treatment of migraines or in the delivery of vaccines.
