Bolt Torquing can be made FASTER

Bolt Torquing can be made FASTER

The first bolt tightening into the Energy segment I got involved was in 1988. Since that humble start I never turned away from this industry and this field of activity. Over all these years I have witnessed this Industry pushing for newer tools that can make the bolt torquing faster, easier for the operators and save what is typically termed as "Wrench Time". My roles and travels gave me significant opportunity to listen to a lot of leaders in this industry and their demands for a faster tool & they still echoing in my ears.

I started reflecting on what we are doing today with the tools & processes that are available. I have had the luxury of interacting and helping many customers with different needs in this field. I asked myself the question:

  1. How are the decisions driven when it comes to investment for tools to handle bolt torquing?
  2. Where is the focus when configuring the tooling solutions?
  3. What factors are challenged in order to improve the solution?
  4. Is "Wrench Time" & its reduction ever in the top priority in all these discussions?
  5. Is value of work achieved measured against the cost of investment?

6. Are time, user ease, skills and competence translated into savings or ROI?

I started looking for answers on these and more questions cropped up and my learnings continued. I brought these up with some of my customers. Many got interested & I opened their eyes to a new arena where they are able to look at their needs differently. With an open mind set, they challenged their traditional approach. They put the "Wrench Time Reduction" as their priority & everything else worked around this need. They invested differently. They have a highly motivated team at site, as user ease showed we care. They produced better quality of result. They got their work done in much shorter time. They made their Torquing faster with the resources they have access to. Things common between all of them were - they challenged the old assumptions, questioned the status quo & worked with an open mind set. They were all change agents & championed the projects.

If you are keen to learn and implement such improvements, then reach out to me & I will find time to invest. For now I am opening this to those in the Middle East region due to time zone and proximity.

Thanks for your time.
