Bolon production is climate neutral
At Bolon, we are proud to be able to say that all our floors are 100% made in Sweden, at our factory in Ulricehamn – A plant that’s totally climate neutral. The factory is entirely powered with electricity from hydropower and has solar cells on the roof.?
In 2022, we made the decision to invest in a solar cell plant. Our ambition was to maximize the initiative by using as much of our head office and factory roofs as possible.?
“How we handle materials during production is by far the most important factor and is key to us reaching our ambitious goals regarding climate and circularity.” says our CEO Marie Eklund .
Since spring 2023 the panels have been up and running and are estimated to produce 1 100 MWh of electricity annually, covering around 25% of the yearly electricity needed for our floors and rugs production. To get an idea of how much electricity this is, the same amount would be enough to power 225 apartments for a year.?
This ensures that our production is not only resource lean - it even has a total positive climate impact. Since our solar cells add new green electricity, dirtier electricity is pushed out of the market. The estimated annual production of solar cells displaces 410 tonnes of CO2 per year.
With our investment in solar panels, we contribute to new, renewable electricity - a positive social impact.
