Proud to have become an honorary member of Team Orange for the initial test run of an electric train on the newly electrified Preston - Blackpool route last night.
Pendolino 390152 performed three return trips drawing maximum power whenever possible to fully exercise the power supply system and overhead line equipment. All testing went very smoothly with great co-operation between all parties.
The only stressful moment occurred when I put my parking ticket in the payment machine at Preston station and was confronted with a bill of ￡24 for 5 hours parking. Many thanks to the Virgin Trains staff at Preston station who took pity on a weary Traction engineer and validated my ticket.
Good luck to Virgin with the start of the new services to Blackpool commencing next week.
Next challenge Manchester - Bolton - Preston, sometime later this year.
