No?“new year, new me” pep talk, just real-life strategies to?boldly break barriers, smash?ceilings, and maybe even flip some tables (metaphorically) if the system isn’t working for you!
Now that 2025 has arrived, let’s get into how I’ve levelled up—and how you too can.
In the last issue, I shared how aligning with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?transformed my life and career into a powerhouse of global impact and accolades
Like I said in the last edition of the Triple B newsletter “Life is best executed within frameworks and blueprints to effect better results.”
You didn’t read it? No hard feelings, but seriously, you might want to catch up here?https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/boldly-breaking-barriers-your-blueprint-impact-2025-abimbola-uay9e?before you miss the flight to greatness!
Ah! The Plot Twist That Changed My Career point of view
Imagine me?on placement during my MA in Social Work, thinking I’m just here to check boxes and finish my hours. Instead, I meet two undergrads on the verge of quitting social work. They were?overwhelmed, exhausted, and convinced social work means “stuck in council roles forever.”
Cue my inner Oprah Winfrey. The coach and entrepreneur in me to the rescue!
Now, I could’ve nodded and moved on—but I don’t do mediocrity nor leave people in chaos.
Instead, I flipped the script. I introduced them to global impact thinking, entrepreneurial flair, and (drumroll) the SDGs.?
Suddenly, their world expanded.
They saw opportunities to lead global projects, challenge outdated systems, and, dare I say, love their future careers.?They went from “I guess I’ll quit” to “I can actually make a difference—and on a global scale!”?Because let's face it, why did they choose the path to social work?
If you’re imagining a slow clap moment, you’re spot on. You can clap now...lol
Moral of the story? Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective (and a little sass).
Now the question that bubbled on my mind was: why aren’t these conversations happening in the classrooms? I only know these things because of my career background!
The Bigger Battle: Breaking the Mold
But wait, there’s more. The challenge wasn’t just inspiring students—it was cracking open the rock-solid, change-resistant shell of seasoned practitioners. You know the type: entrenched in “we’ve always done it this way” thinking and somehow allergic to innovation.?
They weren’t just resistant to innovation; they looked at creativity like it was some kind of TikTok dance trend—cute but unnecessary.
This led me to my dissertation research, where I tackled the question: What if social work education integrated the SDGs?
News flash: The answer was a game-changer.
My lecturers called it “innovative, out-of-the-box, and futuristic.” I call it about time.
Fast forward, and that research laid the groundwork for me to birth The Future Forward Social Work Impact Accelerator?(FFSIA), a program I designed to:
1. Turn social workers into global change-makers.
2. Help organizations ditch outdated methods.
3. Align?social work?education with a 21st-century vision.
Basically, it’s like giving the social work profession a much-needed glow-up.
