Bold Scientists with a Conscience
Good to see these respected scientists calling out one of our big institutions.
Personally I think we’ll always need oil as a petrochemical feedstock but there should be debate on if its smart to burn all the rest for fuel and leave it to markets and those seeking only to maximise their own money pile.
It would be equally good if some of our big charitable engineering institutions like IChemE also took a look at their interpretation of “public benefit" instead of censoring all meaningful debate on important topics.
The hypocrisy surrounding what goes on is the thing that annoys me.
At a previous Operating Company, it, and its HSE department went around telling everyone how it was heroic by saving a few light bulbs worth of energy here and there. When I pointed out in the field they were venting millions of light bulbs worth of CO2 from sour gas fields daily before any of it was burned for fuel I was shunned and they all went back to a feeding frenzy from their big money trough.
