For the Bold Only: The Story of IBDL Twenty Years of Serious Play

December 30, 2024

Before you dive into reading these lines, let me clarify something important: this isn’t an article meant to motivate you or share expertise. Rather, it’s a reflection of an experience— a personal journey filled with details that may or may not reveal lessons. But unquestionably, it’s part of the voyage.

So, let’s begin… This morning, I woke up with a profound desire to talk about the journey I’m still navigating. A journey without a clearly defined final destination, yet rich with milestones, challenges, and countless moments that make you pause, think, reflect, and perhaps even smile.

Preparing for the Game

California/Winter 2004:

With a warm smile, my esteemed professor asked me, "So, you dream of developing and launching a business skills certification, on par with international professional credentials, created by an Egyptian founder?" His tone carried a mix of curiosity and skepticism.

I smiled back and replied confidently, "It’s my right to dream."

Looking back, that moment feels pivotal—both humbling and exhilarating. The idea might have sounded bold, even audacious, but isn’t everything we cherish today the result of someone daring to dream big?

?

It was a crisp winter day, and I was at Claremont Graduate University in California, undergoing advanced training in designing and managing professional certifications. The concept of creating something uniquely impactful had fully consumed me, filling both my heart and mind. Yet, the professor’s comment stung a little; it felt like a subtle dismissal of an idea that I had nurtured with hope and ambition.

?

But here’s the irony: that same professor, once a skeptic, is now one of the strongest advocates for our certifications across the United States and beyond. Life has its poetic turns, doesn’t it?

London/Summer 2005:

I still remember the evening vividly—sitting at Sushi Samba, perched atop Heron Tower in London, with its breathtaking views of the city below. I was there at the invitation of my mentor and brother, the late Dr. Amr Arisha, professor at Dublin Institute of Technology. He had arranged this dinner to introduce me to the founding CEO of a highly regarded international certification.

Dr. Amr, who has since passed away, remains a guiding presence in my life. His wisdom and kindness are deeply missed on this journey.

?

As the evening unfolded, I found myself deeply inspired by the conversation. When the dinner ended, I offered to cover the bill, a gesture I had grown accustomed to during my time in the West. But then, with a lighthearted smile, the CEO stopped me, saying, "Don’t worry about it; I’m wealthier than you."

?

I laughed and replied jokingly, "Why’s that?" knowing full well that I was broke compared to him. His answer was both sharp and revealing: "While we sit here enjoying this spectacular view of London and savoring the best sushi, my company’s bank account grows every hour, day and night, with revenue streaming in from testing and training centers worldwide. That’s what a solid business model does."

Those words stayed with me. They weren’t just a statement—they were a challenge and an invitation to think bigger, to dream smarter.

Alexandria/Winter 2005:

Sitting in the serene surroundings of a farm in Al-Amreya, owned by Dr. Saad Sadek, a distinguished professor of business management, I poured my heart out. For hours, I spoke about my vision—a professional testing platform that would develop content, create business simulation games, and offer globally recognized certifications in business management.

Dr. Saad listened attentively, nodding occasionally as I described the boldness of my aspirations. When I finished, he leaned back, looked me straight in the eye, and said with profound simplicity: "If God does not support a young man in his endeavors, his own efforts will be the first thing to undo him."

He paused, letting the words sink in, then added, "Work hard, strive, but always seek divine guidance. Without God’s help, the journey won’t even begin, let alone succeed."

?

His words resonated deeply. They weren’t just advice—they were a foundation, a reminder that ambition alone isn’t enough. Faith, perseverance, and humility must walk hand in hand with dreams. And so, I set out, ready to build not just a project but a legacy.

From Despair Springs Optimism

Vienna/May 2006:

I stormed out of the meeting room at the Park Inn by Radisson - Vienna, frustration boiling over. For days, we had been negotiating the licensing agreement to secure the franchise for a prominent European professional certification in business management. The contract was within reach, and we were on the brink of signing.

Then, disaster struck.

An individual of Arab descent intervened, influencing the decision and derailing the process. Their interference brought the deal to a halt. I was devastated. "What a catastrophe! I’m utterly defeated!" I thought to myself.

?

But as I sat there, grappling with anger and disappointment, something ignited within me—a fierce determination fueled by sheer willpower. This wasn’t the end. It was a turning point.

"If they’ve blocked the path, then I will forge a better one—a path more professional, more ethical, and held to even higher standards. I will create something that earns unlimited international recognition, something that will astonish the world."

?

Standing in front of the mirror in my hotel room, I made a solemn vow to myself: I would not give up. This setback was not my defeat but the seed of something greater.

The very next day, I booked a flight back to Cairo, ready to start over—this time on my own terms.

Humility, Professionalism, Ethics, and Generosity Combined

Cairo/December 2006:

When some friends suggested I approach Dr. Ahmed Darwish, the then Minister of Administrative Development, for honest advice about the feasibility of my project idea, I didn’t hesitate to seek an appointment through his office. To my surprise, his staff welcomed me warmly, without the need for connections or recommendations.

That same evening, I received a personal call from Dr. Darwish himself. He wanted to hear about my idea directly. The surprise didn’t end there. The next day, he invited me to a private meeting at the Egyptian Shooting Club.

Sitting across from him, I shared my dream—a vision of establishing a platform for professional certifications, exams, and business skills products. The goal was to emulate the model of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Throughout the conversation, I was awestruck by his humility and generosity with his time and effort. I couldn’t help but wonder: Why is he giving me so much attention? Why is he sharing his expertise and invaluable advice so selflessly, expecting nothing in return?

Dr. Ahmed Darwish is truly an extraordinary individual in every sense. His unique perspective on evaluating people, projects, and ideas with seriousness and depth sets him apart. I felt, and still feel, incredibly fortunate to have a relationship that blends professionalism with paternal guidance.

Over the years, he has provided unwavering support to me and my team. His insights enriched our ideas, and his advice often guided us back on track with a firm yet constructive approach when needed.

It is a great honor to have had the privilege of working under the mentorship of this remarkable figure, Dr. Ahmed Darwish. As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he continues to inspire and motivate us to strive for excellence, leaving an indelible mark on our journey.

Discover and Redefine Yourself!

Atlanta, March 2007:

This is where the story began. My first steps into the business incubator in Atlanta were filled with awe and curiosity. I felt as though I was standing on the threshold of a new world, a world brimming with endless opportunities. The idea I carried with me was small and incomplete, but it was infused with passion—just as I was at that moment.

Small Steps, Big Dreams

Every day I spent in the incubator brought new lessons—not just about the project I was working on, but also about myself. Surrounded by a team of creative and ambitious individuals, I realized that success isn’t just about the idea itself; it’s about the passion we invest and the hard work we put in to turn it into reality.

Each meeting, every workshop, and every moment felt like a new window opening onto possibilities I didn’t know I possessed. I felt as if I was being reshaped into a stronger, more confident version of myself, with a clearer vision for the road ahead.

Lessons Carved into Heart and Mind

  1. Courage Above All I learned that the first step is always the hardest, but the courage to take it makes all the difference. The incubator taught me that daring to try is the spark that ignites every success story.
  2. Failure Is the Greatest Teacher Over the past 20 years, I’ve faced setbacks and moments of frustration. But one of the most profound lessons I gained in the incubator was that failure isn’t the end—it’s a stepping stone toward success.
  3. You Are Not Alone I found myself amidst a community of dreamers and innovators—people who shared the same passion, enthusiasm, and even recklessness! Together, we learned and grew, and the spirit of collaboration made the journey all the more inspiring.

From Idea to Reality

The business incubator was the place where my small idea transformed into a tangible reality. I didn’t just leave with a clear business model; I left with a renewed version of myself—more determined, more confident, and more passionate about the future.

?

The dream that started as a spark in that small room in Atlanta has become a living, thriving reality today. And it all began there, in the business incubator—a turning point that reshaped both my professional and personal journey.

To Every Reader: Remember, the beginning may be daunting, but the journey is worth every effort. Discover yourself, redefine your path, and build your future!

Building a Business Model: Preparing for Takeoff

Starting a business is fraught with challenges, and for a budding entrepreneur in the takeoff phase, the risks can be daunting. For me, the most significant challenge was having the vision and a business model but lacking the tools, stakeholder relationships, and an operational framework. Yet, I knew where to look for guidance.

?

Looking to PMI as a Benchmark for Establishing IBDL

When I embarked on the journey to establish IBDL, my dream was ambitious, and my goal was clear: to create a platform for internationally recognized certifications and professional standards in Business Administration Skills (BAS). At that moment, when the challenge felt greater than anything I had ever faced, I turned to one of the most respected and successful organizations in the world: the Project Management Institute (PMI).

This choice became my cornerstone, providing me with the strength and motivation to launch IBDL and pursue my vision.

Learning from the Best: How PMI Inspired IBDL

Founding IBDL was never just a fleeting idea; it was my mission to create meaningful change in executive education and professional certifications in business administration skills. PMI served as a mentor through its rigorous standards, innovative approaches, and forward-thinking vision for education that aligns with the demands of modern times.

Here are some pivotal lessons I drew from PMI to build IBDL:

1. Global Standards as a Foundation

PMI stands uncompromisingly for quality. When I decided to establish IBDL, adhering to global standards was non-negotiable. This commitment ensured that every certification program we offered reflected the highest quality, just as PMI does. Each IBDL credential had to meet these lofty benchmarks to gain credibility and deliver exceptional value.

2. Continuous Improvement: No Room for Stagnation

One of the most powerful lessons from PMI is the importance of ongoing development and innovation. I learned that there’s no room to rest on laurels. At IBDL, we embraced a culture of constant innovation—whether in curriculum updates or adopting new educational methods—to keep pace with the ever-evolving market needs.

3. Focus on Practical Skills

PMI’s emphasis on actionable, real-world application was a game-changer for me. Its certifications are rooted in practical, applicable standards for the workplace. At IBDL, we ensured that every training program equipped participants with tangible skills they could immediately apply in their professional lives, moving beyond theory to deliver real-world impact.

4. Global Recognition: From Certification to Distinction

PMI has always prioritized global recognition for its certifications, and this became a central aspiration for IBDL. I wanted our participants to hold credentials that commanded respect and value in every corner of the globe. Delivering certifications with significant weight in the job market has empowered our trainees to achieve new milestones and excel in their careers.

?

A Model of Inspiration

The foundation of IBDL was built on the lessons and principles I observed in PMI. By leveraging these insights, we have created a platform that not only meets global standards but also pushes the boundaries of professional and executive education.

Through this journey, I’ve learned that the right reference point, combined with unwavering determination, can turn even the most ambitious dreams into reality. For IBDL, PMI was that reference—a guiding light in our quest to transform ideas into impact.

Operational Quality Assurance

Mena House Hotel Giza December 2007:

Mena House Hotel has always been the closest to my heart compared to any other hotel in Egypt, as it was the place where IBDL was launched. I remember sitting in the Pharaonic lobby waiting for my brother, friend and professor Dr. Amr Areesha and three expert professors from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), where we met to discuss their support for us in building the “Operational Quality Assurance Manual”, in addition to working on developing the basic standards. Thanks to their expertise, they were able to prepare distinguished operational and quality assurance manuals that we still rely on in our work to this day. This beginning was the cornerstone for achieving a distinctive vision and superior standards that have become part of our ongoing success.

After the meeting I received this email from Professor Pat O'Neill, Dean of the School of Business, the largest business school in Ireland.

?

Dear khaled,

?

Thank you for the wonderful meeting with the pyramids and the valuable information about the IBDL professional certification programs. I am impressed by your overall learning strategy and both programme design and content. I believe your proposed branding around a Business Driving License is a superb idea with the potential for strong brand recognition internationally.

?

I have a strong record of guiding innovative responses to in-company training and corporate management development needs. During my time in the Dublin Institute of Technology I helped develop quality assurance systems and accreditation mechanisms which provide a robust, transparent and responsive solution to management development requirements. DIT has now become the major corporate management development provider in the University sector in Ireland and its direct clients include leading Irish companies and multi-nationals who have European and world headquarters in Ireland. Current clients and accreditation partners include companies such as Intel, Allied Irish Banks, Oracle and many indigenous sectoral leaders. I would note in particular the strength of DIT relationships in the Middle East.

?

?I believe there are a number of options which can be pursued in relation to quality assurance and accreditation. My own career involved continuous work on behalf of the DIT QA system which is an awarding body within the National Qualification Framework of Ireland (NQF – do see their website).? I have also regularly been involved in institutional and programme reviews on behalf of other Bodies, including The Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) which is also designated as an awarding body under the NQF. There are therefore a number of prestigious options available. I would like in the first instance to approach DIT because of its track record, reputation and brand recognition as a member of the European Universities Association but there are a number of other options also including major Institutes of Technology, Universities and for instance the National College of Ireland. I am confident that we will develop an appropriate solution.

?

I will be happy to act for you in developing the overall strategy, creating the links, guiding the accreditation process and monitoring and supporting the relationship. I look forward to working with you and look forward, in particular, I personally invite you to Ireland in the near future."

Funding the Journey

Riyadh – Dubai – Doha, January – February 2008:

After completing the foundational feasibility study and business model, we found ourselves facing a daunting reality — we needed a significant amount of funding to bring our vision to life. The challenge was clear, but the path ahead was uncertain. We had no guarantees, no assurances about how or when we would secure the financial backing we so desperately needed. So, we set out on a journey, knocking on doors, hoping to find investors who would believe in our dream.

?

In those moments of uncertainty, I can honestly say I was incredibly fortunate. We presented our vision for a long-term investment opportunity — one with modest returns — to a group of investors from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. What happened next took me by surprise. They didn’t just listen; they believed. They showed an unexpected willingness to support us, offering the funds we needed to get started. They saw in us the same potential that others had recognized in Europe and America — a belief in our ability to succeed against the odds.

?

But what stands out the most in my memory is that these investors didn’t just invest in a business idea. They invested in us. They believed in the founders, in our commitment, in our passion. It wasn’t just the project they were betting on — it was our vision, our resilience, and our ability to turn this dream into a reality. Their trust in us became the foundation upon which everything else was built.

Starting the Game:

Choosing the Co. Founders

My journey into the world of entrepreneurship has been filled with profound experiences and lessons. One of the most significant milestones was attending a workshop titled "Choosing the Co. Founders " as part of an intensive program at the Atlanta Entrepreneurship Incubator. This workshop was not just a training session; it was a turning point that shaped my vision of what constitutes a successful partnership, which later contributed to the founding of IBDL.

I learned that true partnership is not just about dividing roles; it is about creating an integrated system built on solid foundations, which includes:

  1. Specialization and Clear Role Definition: Each partner should have a specific role that highlights their skills. One partner may develop the idea, another may manage operations, and a third may focus on opening market doors. Clear role distribution protects the company from confusion and ensures smooth workflow.
  2. Alignment of Visions and Motivations: Success requires shared goals and aligned visions among partners. The beginning must be a joint effort, future plans must be clear, and the direction of the company must be driven by a collective vision.
  3. Working with a Smart and Committed Team: Creative and ambitious people are the foundation of any success. Commitment and passion are the fuel that drives the team to achieve its objectives.
  4. Designing the Company Culture (DNA): A company’s culture stems from its founders. The values, directions, and ambitions of the partners are translated into the spirit and culture that guide the company toward growth.
  5. Reliance on Ethics and Integrity: High morals and integrity are the pillars of a sustainable partnership. Mutual respect creates a healthy environment for collaboration and teamwork.
  6. Deep Understanding of Partners: A partnership is not merely a professional relationship, but a blend of skills, experiences, dreams, and even flaws. Understanding your partner deeply contributes to a better understanding of challenges and the achievement of sustainable success.

The Founding Partners of IBDL

  • Adel Sadek - Chief Business Officer: Adel possesses a unique ability to remain calm in the toughest situations. His personality blends sharp intelligence with a high level of professionalism, especially in marketing, sales management, and business development. His role is not limited to strategy formulation but is also reflected in professional execution. My relationship with him is complex and filled with mixed emotions; sometimes I see him as a father figure guiding me, and other times as a firm leader executing decisions, even if he is not entirely convinced by them. Without Adel, IBDL would not be where it is today.
  • Mustafa Rifaat - Chief Learning Officer: Mustafa is a man of details par excellence. His systematic vision and meticulous organization were fundamental in achieving our goals. Thanks to his precise plans, work flowed smoothly. Although he is no longer with the company, I miss him greatly, as he was an integral part of our success and expansion.
  • Mustafa Basraty - Chief Technology Officer: Mustafa is the innovative technical mind who transforms ideas into advanced digital platforms. His calm and analytical personality contrasted sharply with my fast-paced and impulsive approach to handling details. Despite the tension in our professional relationship, he knows that I hold him in great affection and gratitude. He has been, and still is, one of the key pillars that helped build our world-class digital products.

Conclusion

These partners are not just names; they are the beating heart that created the success story of IBDL. Each of them left a unique mark on our journey, and every decision and action they took had a profound impact on driving the company towards growth. With every challenge we faced, their friendship and partnership served as a source of inspiration and motivation for achieving even more.

The Amazing Team (The Armored Battalion)

In the past years, I was faced with two crucial options when forming the founding team for IBDL. The first was to rely on a team of seasoned experts in executive education, professional certifications, and international testing management. This option seemed logical; it would reduce risks and save considerable time and effort. The second was to form a team of young individuals with limited experience, but possessing an unwavering passion, a thirst for learning, and a willingness to embrace a new journey in a work environment that fosters challenge and creativity.

For those who know me well, the choice was clear from the beginning.

?

I have always believed in the power of youth, seeing in them the ability to turn the impossible into reality. I take great joy in watching those around me surpass their expectations, proving to themselves—and to others—that they are capable. When someone tells me, "This is impossible," I smile and confidently reply, "Let me show you how we can do it." And so, the work begins—not as an obligation or duty, but as an exciting journey full of energy and creativity. It feels like a game where we challenge ourselves and seek victory.

This is the essence of my personal strength: I begin with an idea, choose the right team, and unleash their potential to work together with a shared vision, turning work into genuine enjoyment filled with challenges and achievements.

?

The Secret to IBDL's Success? Diversity and Innovation

One of the key factors that led us to success was the diversity within our team, both in terms of cultures and backgrounds. I have been fortunate to work with exceptional colleagues from different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Egypt.

?

Each one of them brought a unique contribution—whether through their ideas, innovations, or commitment. Their fingerprints continue to enrich the journey of IBDL to this day. I cannot help but express my deep gratitude and appreciation to them—they are the heartbeat that made every step in our journey filled with challenges and achievements.

?

A Heartfelt Thank You to the Incredible IBDL Team

? Mohamed Abdel Monem and the Branding and Identity Team: I want to express my deepest gratitude for crafting and preserving our brand identity, and for shaping the powerful mental image that defines us. Your work has truly made our presence unforgettable.

Our journey together has been, and continues to be, an inspiration. Because of you, we have become what we are today, and the future still holds much excitement and challenges that we look forward to facing together. Thank you all.

"Calling the Inventory When Needed"

I had the honor of working with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, on a remarkable project called Edge Business, aimed at supporting and developing small businesses in the Middle East and North Africa MENA region. This project was an extraordinary experience focused on designing and delivering innovative educational programs and products for small business owners, based on a strong and distinctive methodology.

I must admit, I was the first beneficiary of this program over the years in the region, and it truly served as an open school for me. Through it, I learned how to design executive education frameworks and professional certifications under the guidance of one of the world’s leading industry experts, Mark L. Nielsen, Consultant at IFC. I also gained extensive experience in developing quality assurance systems and preparing operational manuals for training centers worldwide.

A heartfelt thank you to the International Finance Corporation for this unique journey, and to my mentor, Mark Nielsen, for his invaluable guidance!

Mastering the Game

Partnering with the Giants:

To become great, you must convince the greats that you deserve the opportunity!

Athens, September 2009:

By God's grace first and foremost, and with the incredible support of my dear friend and brother, Engineer Ahmed Badawi, the agent for McGraw-Hill, we achieved what seemed like a great dream. We managed to convince one of the world’s most prestigious and influential publishing houses, McGraw-Hill, to design all the educational resources and content for our certifications in three languages: Arabic, English, and French. These resources were not just books; they were the result of collaboration with some of the best business professors in the world, much like the top business schools in America and Europe.

?

For us, this was more than just a project—it was a learning journey! Three years of hard work and creativity, during which we produced educational materials and books that rival the best in the world, all thanks to the exceptional support of Adrianna M. Savvides, McGraw-Hill's Customer Success Expert. Adrianna truly was one of the finest experts we’ve worked with, leaving an unforgettable mark on this project.

?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ahmed, for your unwavering belief in us and your constant support. Thank you, Adrianna, for your passion, professionalism, and belief in our potential. Without both of you, we would never have reached this point... Thank you for being part of this journey!

International Recognition

Missouri, January 2009:

We were on the verge of achieving a monumental goal: convincing the leaders of the university and the Institute for Management Development to recognize our certifications and accredit our exams in accordance with the professional framework for professional testing in the United States. The task was challenging, but the pivotal moment came even more beautifully than we had expected. The big surprise was receiving global recognition from the university and the institute for our certification and exams. IBDL became an internationally recognized platform for professional exams and certifications. This achievement felt like the crowning moment of my day, my happiness for the entire year. Praise be to God!

Today, I find myself sincerely grateful to the MSU Management who contributed to making this dream a reality. A special thank you to President Clif Smart, President of Missouri State University, Dr. James P. Baker, Assistant for Government Relations, Allen D. Kunkel, Vice President for Administration, and Ms. Rayanna L. Anderson, President of the Institute for Management Development.

?

I also extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to the professors, colleagues, and friends I’ve worked with over the years and still cherish the partnership: Glenn Pace, Scott Scobee, and finally, my co-founder and lifelong friend, Jeffrey Schmedeke, who has always been an unparalleled source of inspiration and development.

This achievement stands as a testament to the power of teamwork and perseverance, and it is the cornerstone of who we are today. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

You Have to Wear More Than One Shirt:

I had to step into the field wearing more than one shirt, constantly shifting between roles and responsibilities—not out of desire, but out of necessity, driven by the scarcity of resources. This is what life is like when you start a small company, feeling your way toward growth. In those early stages, a founder can’t just fulfill the role of a strategic leader; they must also be the player who defends, attacks, and scores goals all at once.

?

For fifteen years, my mission was clear: build the company, protect its assets, enhance its products, and solidify its brand. I fought daily battles, learning and evolving with every step, pushing the company forward as quickly as possible.

Today, things have become clearer and more mature. I’ve learned how to select the right team, trust them, and gradually let go of the multiple roles I once bore alone. Now, I welcome new colleagues to wear those many shirts and play alongside me.

Working with True Experts!

Over the years, I have always preferred spending hours with true experts whenever the opportunity arises—learning, discussing opportunities, products, and the challenges facing IBDL that could have potentially hindered or even stopped the company’s growth. I vividly remember the key meetings that played a pivotal role in the company’s development and in shaping its current identity. These moments are forever etched in my mind, and I take this moment to express my deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to our success.

?

? Houston – Missouri – Dubai – Qatar – Cairo – Luxor: Several meetings with Scot Scobee and Glenn Pace, HR development experts who provided us with solutions for linking individual development to institutional growth within IBDL’s certification models. ? Dallas – Houston – Riyadh: The experience of working with Pat Woods, President of the Supply Chain Institute in Texas. ? Minnesota – Cairo – Doha: Collaborating with John Kaliski and Phil Anderson from Minnesota State University, experts in business simulation games, who provided valuable and effective consulting on building and developing our testing and e-learning platforms, as well as in the creation of business simulation games. ? Missouri – Houston – Doha – Dubai – Cairo: The experience of working with Anderson Rayanna, Director of the Technology & Small Business Development Center, and Allen Kunkel, President of Jordan Valley Innovation, who have continuously been a huge support and incubator for us. ? Finally, the experience of global business development and market expansion with my friend and business partner, Jeffrey Schmedeke, former Director of the Management Development Institute, with whom I worked for years to open markets in Africa, India, and South Korea. (He is objective, a wise advisor, positive, neutral, and brimming with practical ideas. He excels in business development and, most importantly, he gives generously!) Thank you, Jeff!

?

Deep Gratitude

The words cannot adequately express my immense gratitude to all these friends and experts who have profoundly influenced my journey and the life of our company. What they contributed was not merely professional support—it was a journey of inspiration and generosity that will forever be etched in my memory. A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. Without you, we wouldn’t be here today.

The World is Waiting for Us! Products then Limits, and Boundaries

For as long as I can remember, I have held a deep, unshakable belief that the world is waiting for what we have to offer. The products we create, the ideas we bring to life—they hold the power to unlock limitless possibilities.

?

Throughout my journey, I have been blessed with experiences that have inspired and shaped me. I have worked, traveled, and learned in more than 40 countries, each one adding a new chapter to my story. It all began in the United States, where we joined forces with community colleges to equip young minds with essential business management skills, helping them step confidently into the workforce or launch their own ventures. Then, India—where we empowered young people with the skills to excel in management, opening doors to opportunities both locally and internationally. In the Middle East, we introduced IBDL's Arabic certifications to over 20 countries, paving the way for growth. Our reach expanded further into the Maghreb and West Africa, where our French-language programs allowed us to touch the lives of more than 15 nations. And then, Southern and Eastern Africa embraced our journey, which eventually led us to the vibrant region of Southeast Asia.

IBDL: A Platform that Creates Change

Today, IBDL is more than just a learning platform. It is a force that inspires, empowers, and transforms. It is a place where dreams take flight, where boundaries no longer exist, and where opportunities are endless. Built on a foundation of ethics, professionalism, and international standards, IBDL stands as a leader in providing globally recognized professional certifications.

But we didn’t stop there. We broadened our vision to include psychological and behavioral assessment centers, alongside a specialized business simulation factory—tools that give professionals the means to achieve their ambitions on a global stage. Our offerings span diverse fields, from business management and engineering to leadership, sustainable development, climate change, and future studies.

?

Every program we offer is more than just a certification or a development course; it is the embodiment of a leadership spirit and global values we once dreamed of making a reality. With each new step we take, we continue to bring our vision to life: to be a platform that knows no limits, that makes a difference, and that opens horizons for anyone with the ambition to reach for more.

When Growth Becomes a Risk

On a summer day along the North Coast, I made my way to his home with two board members. We carried with us an urgent challenge and a sense of heavy responsibility. Thanks to God, the company was growing at a faster pace than we had anticipated, to the point where it felt as if we were on the verge of losing control over achieving its ambitious goals.

He greeted us with the smile of a wise father and the deep experience of a seasoned mentor, listening to us for hours. We spoke with seriousness and concern, while he listened with a calm patience that reflected boundless trust. When we finished sharing our worries, he spoke with clarity and calm:

"There's no need to worry. Your company is heading in the right direction. However, you need to develop a document that distinguishes your founders and a strategic thinking model that helps you manage the company’s course."

?

He continued, "I recommend you use the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework, offered by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology. This framework will enable you to lead IBDL more effectively."

?

With the patience of a teacher and the skill of an expert, he explained the significance of these standards and their central role in managing organizations effectively. His advice was a turning point. A year later, we found ourselves better equipped to lead IBDL, with clearly defined strategic objectives and precise standards for growth and excellence.

?

He is an exceptional thinker—humble, highly professional, deeply knowledgeable, generous without bounds, and possessing practical, almost magical solutions for organizational growth. Thank you, Professor Sherif Dallawer, for being the inspiration, motivator, and supporter. You have been, and continue to be, a beacon guiding us on our journey toward the future.

Expanding into Africa through the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

When I embarked on my journey to explore the vast opportunities in Africa, my starting point was guided by my mentor, Dr. Ahmed Darwish, who confidently told me:

"If you want to enter Africa, you must start with the gateway of Ambassador Mona Omar."

Ambassador Mona Omar, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the African Union's prominent personalities committee, is not just a skillful diplomat; she is truly "Mama Africa." Her illustrious history of achievements in African affairs, her boundless professionalism, and her openness to business and the private sector have made her an exceptional model of female leadership. However, what sets her apart even more is her kindness and humanitarian spirit, which reflect patriotism in its most beautiful form.

?

Ambassador Mona Omar provided us with invaluable support and opened doors we never imagined. From that moment, she became more than just a mentor to me—she became a second mother who believed in our potential to succeed.

?

In this context, I cannot discuss our expansion into Africa without mentioning my dear friend, Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and founding Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development. This exceptional diplomat, a graduate of the finest American universities, played a pivotal role in enabling our expansion into Africa through the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

?

I vividly recall going to him alongside Ambassador Mona Omar to present the idea of collaborating to offer IBDL certifications in Africa through the agency. We proposed a training grant for 1,000 government leaders spread across 20 African countries, with 50 trainees in each country, to build their capacities in government management and executive leadership skills. In return, we sought logistical support from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies in Africa, which would allow us to establish a strong presence on the continent.

?

I also suggested that this initiative be registered under the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, making it part of Egypt’s soft power programs. I clearly remember some government friends expressing concerns at the time, questioning whether the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be hesitant to collaborate with the private sector.

?

But what happened was the complete opposite. Thanks to the support of Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy and his team, we were able to establish this partnership, which has since become a model of integration between the private sector and government in serving sustainable development in Africa.

?

This experience was a practical lesson in the importance of believing in bold ideas and collaborating across different sectors to achieve common goals. A heartfelt thank you to Ambassador Mona Omar and Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy—without you, we would not have been in Africa.

Partnership with Governments!

I have always believed, and continue to firmly believe, that the partnership between the private sector and governments is a fundamental pillar in accelerating the achievement of key objectives and sustainable development. With this in mind, IBDL has successfully built bridges of trust and professionalism with many governments across the Middle East over the years. We have worked hand in hand to realize shared visions by developing major projects, launching pivotal initiatives, and implementing executive education programs aimed at building the capacities and enhancing the efficiency of the second- and third-tier government leadership.

These efforts have had a profound impact, as we have executed over 800 projects and initiatives in 12 countries, benefiting more than 20,000 graduates from promising leaders. Today, we take pride in the fact that many decision-makers and influential leaders are graduates of these programs, which have significantly contributed to empowering them and supporting their professional and personal growth.

?

Seeing the positive impact we have left on these government institutions, and hearing the success stories reflected in leaders who are making a difference, fuels our determination to continue on this path. We look forward to a future filled with achievements and strategic partnerships that further enhance our role in achieving sustainable development.

?

At IBDL, we are proud of the exceptional success stories that have been achieved through our partnership with government institutions. These stories represent a true investment in building human capital, discovering and nurturing talent, and preparing second- and third-tier leaders to drive the future.

Leaping Forward!

Years pass, and experiences unfold. With every step I take in my life and with IBDL, I find myself returning to the same starting point—not in the sense of beginnings, but in its essence. I still feel like a beginner; that sensation that blends motivating fear, deep passion, and overwhelming joy. The same enthusiasm that turns challenges into adventures, and the same ability to play that transforms every opportunity into a new experience.

?

This feeling, which I call the "cold zone," is my favorite place. It is where my energy is born, where boldness is balanced with reflection, and where creativity emerges from the heart of simplicity. It is the point where I find my energy renewed, the very place that fuels my drive to keep moving forward.

?

Today, IBDL is not just a dream realized; it has become a promise carrying a powerful message. A promise that at IBDL, we have the ability to overcome challenges, lead change, and shape the future. A promise that we can be part of the global inspiration and the learning ecosystem that makes a difference.

IBDL today is more stable, resilient, and widespread. But despite all that we’ve achieved, it still carries the spirit of the beginning— that belief that what we create is not just work, but a legacy that transcends us, a legacy that inspires future generations to continue building and moving forward.

?

At the end of this journey, I dedicate everything I have accomplished to my life partner and Journey companion, Aya, “The tent pole” as I love to call her—and to my M Circus. as I love to tell them, I hope that one day they will be proud of what this persevering struggler, since his childhood, has tried to achieve—not just by founding IBDL, but through his story of Boldness, determination and passion.

?

My greatest ambition is for them to realize that what this young man, who fought since his youth, started was not merely a personal achievement, but an attempt to contribute to creating a better future for all of us.

?

True success is not measured only by what we achieve for ourselves, but by the legacy we leave behind—one that inspires others to continue the journey. It is about planting the seeds of learning and inspiration in future generations, so that our story becomes part of their story, and our success becomes part of their success.

I had participated in the program which has positive impact not only on the professional level, but also on the personal level. Thank you with?best wishes for continued success
