I was recently reminded of a conversation I had with a friend of mine earlier this year. He was starting his own business and wanted some advice on do’s, don’ts and pitfalls. After sharing some thoughts, he asked me a single question:
“What’s the single most significant piece of advice you can give me as I start on this new venture?”
A good question – one I’ve been asked hundreds of times, but this time I answered differently,
“Be Bold!”
I followed up by adding, “…be bolder sooner.” In the moment, I realized how many ways I had hesitated while I was building my business. Recently, I’ve been playing bigger and bolder. And that’s the advice I still choose to give others: Be Bold.
Be bold to clarify career objectives. Be bold in asking for feedback. Be bold in taking the initiative. Be bold in asking questions in order to better understand. Be bold in offering ideas and suggestions. Be bold, be bold, be bold!
Our teams, families, businesses, communities, relationships and world need more people who are willing to be bold. Will you take the risk?
