Boeing Presents Safety Overhaul Plan to FAA Following Incident
Boeing has submitted a comprehensive safety improvement plan to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following a fuselage panel blowout on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 in January 2024. The FAA mandated the plan after an investigation revealed missing bolts caused the panel to detach mid-flight, sparking further scrutiny into Boeing's safety practices. The proposed measures include enhancing the Safety Management System, simplifying procedures, increasing supplier oversight, improving employee training, and conducting more internal audits, with the FAA maintaining a production cap on the 737 Max until substantial progress is made. FAA Blocks Boeing 737 Max Production Increase Pending Quality Fixes
Boeing cannot increase production of its 737 Max planes until it addresses significant quality issues, as discussed in a recent three-hour meeting with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The meeting, which included Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and other top executives, presented a comprehensive plan for improving production processes, including enhanced employee training, stricter supplier controls, and additional FAA audits. The FAA, emphasizing the need for systemic change, will continue to monitor Boeing's progress through weekly meetings and monthly reviews before considering any production increases. SARPcheck global aviation safety audit: A wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster
SARPcheck is a new global aviation safety audit that assesses airline compliance with select ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) across defined ICAO Annexes. The primary aim of this audit is to enhance global flight safety while providing an affordable and accessible tool to facilitate ACMI, wet lease, and codeshare operations. The ICAO Annexes and SARPs that SARPcheck focuses on are specifically those outlined by regulatory and industry standards, including FAA requirements for overseeing foreign air carriers and the TCO approval elements of EASA.
SARPcheck is governed by a London-based not-for-profit organization, the Safety Audit Review Partnership (SARP Ltd.), which accredits Safety Quality Organizations (SQOs) such as AEROTHRIVE, Aviation Quality Services and WAKE (QA) LIMITED to conduct these audits globally. Detailed information about the program, including the SARPcheck Program Manual (SCPM), informative brochures, and the latest updates, is available on our website at www.SARP.org.
