??A recent investigation by the Brindisi prosecutor's office (Italy) has revealed a serious safety issue involving Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The investigation centered on non-compliant components supplied to Leonardo-Aerostrutture, an Italian company responsible for manufacturing sections of the 787's fuselage.
??According to Italian media, the investigation has implicated seven individuals and two subcontractors in a criminal conspiracy involving a variety of offenses, including endangering transportation safety, environmental pollution, and commercial fraud. These entities are accused of supplying approximately 6,000 non-conforming parts, which were made from cheaper, less durable materials.
??Specifically, the investigation found that some fuselage sections were constructed using pure titanium instead of the required titanium alloy, resulting in significantly reduced structural strength. Additionally, aluminum alloys used in other components did not meet the specified standards. This latest revelation has dealt a significant blow to Boeing, which is already facing scrutiny over the safety of its 737 MAX aircraft.
The price you pay for economic bribery. "If you let us help build it, we promise we'll buy some". It happens everywhere with almost everything. But by doing that, Boeing lost some control in the entire manufacturing process, or so it would appear. If this had happened in Russia or North Korea, we'd all be saying "I told you so". Worrying, it occurred in Italy, which points to major flaws in the EU - in addition to the "British" company recently investigated for providing dodgy aircraft parts. All in all, I think "globalisation" ain't quite as good as we are constantly led to believe.
