Boeing Back In The Game?

On December 13, 2022, United Airlines announced the finalization of the largest order of Boeing 787 Dreamliners in Boeing's history. What makes the purchase even more momentous, is that United Airlines also bought 100 Boeing 737 MAX.

Boeing has faced serious challenges since 2018 with the crash of two of its Boeing 737 MAX in 2018 and 2019. This came on the heels of the global pandemic which crippled the aviation industry for a while. However, this order could very well mean that Boeing is back in the game and is on track to reclaim its global dominance in manufacturing airliners.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., Dec. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] and United Airlines [NASDAQ:UAL] today announced the carrier is investing in its future fleet with an order for 100 787 airplanes, with the option to purchase 100 more. The deal is the largest 787 Dreamliner order in Boeing history. United is also purchasing 100 737 MAX jets, exercising 44 existing options and placing 56 new orders. "United emerged from the pandemic as the world's leading global airline and the flag carrier of the United States," said United CEO Scott Kirby.

DNORTH CHARLESTON, S.C./CHICAGO Dec 13 (Reuters) - United Airlines (UAL.O) said Tuesday it is ordering 100 Boeing (BA.N) 787 Dreamliners and 100 737 MAXs as it pushes for post-pandemic growth and replaces older, less-efficient aircraft. The Chicago-based airline's order for 200 airplanes is worth about $43 billion at list prices and represents a big boost to the U.S. planemaker after political and production issues for the two planes this year.
