Bodily Relearning
Hi there
We are incredibly excited to launch another brand new course for 2023. Built from the ground up on a foundation of the latest in pain science, educational approaches and modern neurodynamic thinking, Bodily Relearning from Ben Boyd is here!
This course is based on Ben's soon-to-be-released book?Bodily Relearning: Reteaching Bodily Protection Responses through insight and movement exploration.?This 2-day live, in-person interactive course will include deep discussions of clinical narratives and metaphors and the science behind these stories. Significant time will be dedicated to the practical and clinical application of these concepts. The course consists of extensive labs focused on assessing the sensitivity level of the neuroimmune system and treatment-focused movement exploration labs aimed at driving positive adaptations of our bodily protection responses. This will include exploring progressions/regressions for dynamic movements associated with sport, recreation, activities of daily living, work, locomotion, and more. Additional labs will involve mindfulness practices to increase awareness of our bodily protection systems and build skills to positively alter these responses when triggered by activity.?
?
The?Bodily Relearning?course will be a blend of lab, discussion, and lecture aimed at honing the practitioner’s skills in clinical application for the very next time they are at work.
This course will be helpful for any movement specialist within the medical and healthcare communities, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, physicians, and exercise physiologists. Movement-based practitioners, such as Feldenkrais practitioners, yoga instructors, Pilates instructors, mindfulness practitioners, athletic trainers, coaches, personal trainers and anyone who helps people suffering from pain are also all welcome and will find the course accessible and immediately applicable.Image from Bodily Relearning - NoigroupHere's a little more detail from Ben about his new course:
"Bodily Relearning?is a rehabilitation approach for people dealing with persistent pain?based upon the principle that our biological tissues and processes are ever-adaptable. Specifically, when determining the safety of movement or activity, our body continually performs a real-time, ongoing threat assessment.?“How safe am I right now?”?“How safe would it be for me to do this thing?”?Gathering all seemingly pertinent information to answer these questions, the body creates what it sees as an appropriate bodily protection response, potentially including the experience of pain.?
A?Bodily Relearning?approach aims to reteach the neuroimmune system to appropriately decrease sensitivity, alert and bodily protection responses related to activity and thus allow for more freedom of movement and activity.?Strategies to accomplish this?Bodily Relearning?include; “making sense” of the situation, through deep understanding and knowledge about what is going on and what can be done about it;?identifying how to safely re-engage in meaningful life activities, including flare-up planning and management; designing an appropriate movement exploration plan and reflection skills; and developing mindfulness practices to increase awareness of our bodily protection systems and building skills to positively alter these responses when triggered by activity."?
(Ben has worked with a remarkable young break out artist,?Emmanuelle Mariategue to produce absolutely stunning new art for his book and course, including these images from real life case studies presented in graphic novel form)
Ben is launching his Bodily Relearning Course and book with a world tour, teaching in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. Ben's incredible and comprehensive new book, featuring extraordinary artwork and graphic novel case studies from Emman, is included as part of the course.

Here's a final word from Ben, with a short excerpt from his book
"By pairing knowledge, insight and understanding about what is going on and what we can do about it with active movement exploration, reflection, and some mindfulness practices, we are trying to reteach the bodily protection responses (both conscious and non-conscious) to allow more freedom of activity with less protection."
We can't wait to see you there!
